Oil Consumption 325 e90

Hi,

My 2006 325 e90 demands another litre of oil about every 4000 miles / 4 months.

This seems quite heavy to me, but the dealer (David Holmes - Stockport) says it is normal.

What are other people's opinions / experiences?

Thanks,
Matthew.

my 330i had a couple of litres in quick succession after around 10K miles. Oil level has been pretty stable since then - now on 38K miles.

I belive this is normal, anything after 3000 miles usually starts burning out thats why I change my oil between BMW oil intervals.

My 320d has used 2 litres in 15000 miles, which BMW tell me is quite normal.

I think this is only 'normal' at around 8000-12000 miles. After that, mine hasn't used any oil at all.

I have a 2005 325, after doing 2k motorway miles in about 5 weeks my oil level went from full to half, i topped it up with a litre and all seems well now, back at full and staying there.

Again i was told motorway miles makes the 6 cycl engines very thirsty indeed.

I was actually going to start a new thread about my oil consumption aswell...

car went to the dealership for an oil service recently...

after the oil service, it was showing as max.......

after 2000 miles...it is now showing just above the MIN level.....a top up will be needed soon!!!...is this normal?....

going from MAX to MIN after 2000 miles....and recent oil service?!!?

Have just topped mine up with a litre (325i) after checking the new fangled electronic dip stick (36k miles), i did think the 325's would use less oil..... my old E46 330i used to drink a litre every 1500-2000 miles...which is nice.

The Mechanic at the stealers did say BMW mabe going back to dipsticks?

I have had the same thing with my 325i e92 since i brought the car from the main agent on 36000 miles i have now done 46000 and i have already added 1 liter of oil in and the car is now showing about a quarter left between minimum and max. I have had a few cars before and hardly ever had to add any oil to them between services so i am quite bewildered why bmw seam it to be the norm.
I have now got 4000 miles before my service and bmw have told me that its quite normal to have to add a liter of oil for every 1000 miles. So if this is the case after a service am i now expected to add 14 litres of oil to my car between services. I thought new cars are ment to be good for the environment, so surely there must be a big question over where is this oil going. Burnt off into the environment obviously.
I had an 1983 mini as my first car that run on thick duchams oil and that would go 10000 between needing top ups and that engine had been around the clock twice so it was very worn.
Sorry dont mean to rant just seams strange how a big company like bmw can get away with having such an inefficient engines in there range of cars.
