Built in cd changer???
Can you guys tell me when 335i with nav have built in dash 6 disc changer or when there's just 1? Mine was built 11/06 and it only has the single disc. Is there a changer in the trunk? (I'll be picking up the car tomorrow)
thx. single cd 6-cd |

this is not a 6cd changer ... these are kind of shortcut buttons programed by user
regarding the CD changer in the trunk ... if you ordered it then you have it if not then no

All BMW 3 series only come with a 1-disc CD player. You cannot get a 6-disc changer in the dashboard center console. This is probably one of the few flaws of BMWs.
I think they didn't care to engineer a 6-disc changer in the center console because all new 3 series come standard with an auxiliary input now.

Sometimes I plug my tube-amp driven turntable into the Aux input. Analog sound is just so much 'warmer' than CDs. The DC-AC converter introduces a bit too much noise though.

you have a 335i, right? just turn off the radio and listen to that deep exhaust note when you step on the gas pedal.

...which is why everything on my iPod is Apple Lossless. Between the iPod adapter in my car and the Airport Express on my stereo I hardly ever touch my CDs anymore. Why would anybody spend money on a changer these days?

with the mp3 function on cd's you could toss the 6+ cd's on a single disc. having or using the changer isnt an viable option for me.

I didn't mean to create a controversy but playing an IPod through a car or docking station is no where near the sound of a true hifi. I must preface my comments by saying I only own an Ipod shuffle and and don't often use it. When I want to listen to a quality recorded musical experience, my stereo has Adcom power and preamps, a Pioneer Elite single CD player and Snell speakers. This is not like listening through headphones and a MP3 player. Thus the reason I hope CD's don't go away. For the car and portable listening MP3's are wonderful but for real hifi, no.
Thanks, Mike. |

(hi-bitrate) iPod audio through a car stereo isn't any worse than CDs through a car stereo. Talking about audiophile car gear seems kind of oxymoronic to me. Even though I'm not a big CD change fan in general, I still like CDs as a nice DRM-free delivery mechanism. My CDs are all ripped (lossless) in iTunes, and put back on the shelf. An optical line from the Airport Express to my receiver keeps everything nice and bit-exact, et voila, I can shuffle my entire library. My vinyl gets handled way more than CDs do. |
