Special Request: High-Flow Catted DP w/ Secondary Cat Delete? E90
Hi all!
I have an E90 N54 with AR Design Catted Downpipes and an entirely stock catback. I was thinking of secondary cat and muffler delete but wasn't sure if I wanted that loud. I thought I would try out just secondary cat delete for now with my catted DP's, stock resonator, and stock mufflers (w/ golf tee mod). Not too worried about drone as that doesn't bother me. Does anyone run this setup? Even better, would anyone have a sound clip they can share? Very interested in this. I can only seem to find clips that have catless downpipes and I know catted downpipes don't sound quite the same. Thanks |

I would never do muffler deletes, that's for sure.
I have an N55 with a Wagner catted down pipe and no secondaries (comes like that from the factory). Doubt it helps much but here's a quick clip in neutral. Out in the open, maybe 15-20ft behind the car. This is with the JB4 exhaust flap open option selected. |

![]() If only the N54 sounded this great with catted downpipes... As for the muffler delete, I am thinking the same thing. If I were to do it, however, I would put some resonators in place of the mufflers and keep the stock one there as well. I believe it'd sound great but it might be too loud for my liking. I am going to try out the secondary cat delete with 4" tips and call it a day. If I want a louder note, I will just do the PE mod to the rest of the exhaust (X-pipe and muffler mod). Thanks again! |

90%+ of those, on this forum, do the secondary cat delete replace them with 1792 Vibrant Resonators. They are high flow. They will reduced and almost eliminate drone. If you have the sedan, I'd encourage you to get rid of the resonator and replace it with an X-pipe. The Magnaflow 10791 would be a great X-pipe. I'd look into the BMW Performance mufflers or the 335IS mufflers and do the golf tee mod on them. If you want more sound after that, then take the mufflers out and replace them with straight pipe & tips. You can always sell the mufflers on this forum. I'd buy the mufflers in this forum for 1/2 of the cost of new ones. The only way I'd buy new mufflers would be 335IS mufflers. You can sometimes get them brand new for $800.00 out the door. |

Yes.
The tips will stick out about 2" from the bumper. You can shorten this up, if you really want them to be flush. However, they do fit either way. All you need are some exhaust couplers, a good sawzall with a Diablo carbon-tipped, metal blade, measuring skills, a jack or a transmission jack (works better) and some finesse. It's not a terribly hard DIY. https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_In...38;SVSVSI=.htm https://www.homedepot.com/p/Diablo-4...FZHGwAod0WAESw |

My original plan was to delete the secondaries and replace the mufflers with some resonators. That way, my exhaust would be catted DP's, stock resonator, resonators in place of the mufflers, and 4" tips. I am still not sure if the secondary cat delete would be loud enough for me. I like a loud exhaust note as long as it sounds decent, and from what I've researched about, my original plan would sound pretty good. However, I'm still in the blue about which setup I want to go with. I was also thinking of the PE mod with an X-pipe and secondary cats replaced with resonators. |
