Exclamation Something is bent after pot hole

Hit a nice fat pothole the other day at night. SLAM! Seemed to drive fine when I got home. Next day the steering "catches" or gets stuck a little then releases free. Whether I steer left or right, about half way it almost gets stuck. This is my 335xi.

So...what could possibly be bent??
Dropped it off today and will find out more Monday when examine the carnage.
Who thinks they have the correct answer?

I m not sure what it is , however mine did the same for one day. I took it to the car wash , rinse the wheels nice ( inside) , because it almost feel like something was stuck there. Anyhow I took it for a test drive and it was still doing it . Next day I get ready to work and to make an appointment with my mechanic , as I m going to work I really do not feel the problem anymore. It hasn't come back since then , to this day I still do not know what happened that day with the steering wheel , but its been like 3 months and the car is running fine

Funny thing is a week after this happened my brother was talking to me about an issue he had on his car almost the same day , it was also his steering wheel on his audi getting somewhat stuck half way and then releasing free, which was exactly the same problem I had. His problem also lasted only a day and then it went away

Anyways , I thought I share this with you , just in case they do not find anything and everything is good ....

Pot hole aside, this almost sound like an issue with a "sticky" lower steering shaft.

I'd search the forums on that topic as plenty of peeps have experienced the same/similar issues with the culprit being the shaft mentioned.

Sorry Beastman. Until you get it installed you'll likely be wondering if anything else has been damaged.

My tech looked at it and thought it was the rack and pinion column. After uninstalling everything and checked nothing was wrong. Just jammed up he said. Lubed it and so far so good. Feels fine now. Saved me some cash is all I care. Keeping a close eye on it though...

Yup, a shot of Silikroil sometimes helps to loosen the knuckle

I have my steering wheel lube every 2 or sometimes every oil change. If I dont i can hear some noises in the steering wheel when turning. Its been like that for like 3 years

Where do apply this stuff? Inside of the boot on the rack and pinion? I ask because sometimes I get noise when I turn, but not all the time.
