Timing Chain Tensioner

My friend/indy shop owner told me that based on his previous n55 335i experience, it's necessary to replace the timing chain tensioner at around 60-70k because it most likely might become loose and might be the cause of skipping timing,

I tried searching but had no luck on this particular issue, what are your opinions?

Any signs of having a loose chain? I hear this light rattling sound at low rpms but no codes and oil was clean of any rod bearing material.

No signs of a loose chain or any other issues Mike, this was thought of as a preventive maintenance item to replace, which kind of got me thinking as there isn't much of this issue going around from what I've searched

Well your friend/indy would be the only one who has heard that. Serpentine belt and tensioner, sure that sounds right for preventative maintenance.

unheard of.. at least for BMW. Other makes yes. At least BMW doesnt have that issue.

First sign of a loose tensioner would be an oil leak on the turbo side of the engine. A pretty big oil leak! I've also not heard of this one before.
