Best software to code

Hey guys back again, what's the best software to use for beginners. I'm planning on coding my side mirrors some injectors and see what else to do. I've never coded in my life but I just bought a bimmergeeks k+dcan cable and getting a dedicated laptop for coding so I'm down to choosing the best software that's easy to use or that has a lot of support as in threads available to help me out. Thanks for your help in advance

Easiest to use would be BimmerCode app or Carly.

For injectors, feature Coding and the whole package, use BMW Coding tools. This consists of NCS expert, INPA, etc.

Keep in mind, BMW Coding tools are not really beginner friendly; you will have to be actively engaged on forums.

Do you like the carly app? It is now a subscription service for the app /year for $60... Thinking about getting but not sure if its worth it for that plus the $80 adapter.

Not worth it if you're just doing your own car. You will only use it a few times before you run out of things to code with it. You will probably code everything you need in one shot. You will have to pay for the app and the proper adapter $$$$$

Where do I get BMW coding tools? Also a newbie looking to get into coding features as well as diagnostics and anything else I need once I start doing my own maintenance. Can I use a MacBook?

You can visit the Bimmer Geeks website and grab the Coding tools from there.

The easiest thing to do is to download the preconfigured virtual machine image and mount that.

It has all of the software installed and ready to go.

Check the stickies.

Any idea where that image file is? Couldn't find it in the stickies.

Best advice I've gotten so far since I don't know much is to pay someone to remotely set up your laptop for coding. You might want to or not but that seems to be the route I'm going as there are many options out there and since I am at a beginning stage I would just much rather pay someone than mess up or download an inadequate software. If you want a referral I would PM jsanchez335 and he can get you the number for someone. Hope that helps

I found this thread on here that might help https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=979363
I was also told coding would work if you're running boot camp on your Mac.

Search for "V3 lite released".

Everything is installed, configured and working.

No need to do more than run the VM host software and configure the virtual machine.

It is almost trivial!

You can fire it up to code whenever you want.

Hi To all again ,

I have downloaded from bimmergeeks the bmw standard tools and ISTA(D).

I think these are the latest tools available. Is this correct?

Same question here.

I tried BMW Standard Tools 2.12 but they don't seem to connect via my K-DCAN cable or do not recognize my car (328i 2012 E93).

I successfully installed Rheingold 4.20 (ISTA-D=ISTA + 4.20.12; ISTA-P 3.66; with all data). ISTA-D connects, correctly identifies my car, reads info from my car's ECU's but then freezes when it goes to "Overall vehicle test" - see the attachment. I have to restart my computer.

ISTA-P does not start properly.... perhaps I did not configure correctly ICOM emulator, but some options did not come on my computer...

I read somewhere that newer ISTA-D works only with F,G and newer cars and not with older E vehicles?

I only need to register my car battery, and to read error codes and rest them. Do not need any advanced programming at this time.

So, what's the best / easiest and guaranteed software to use (with K-DCAN cable, on 2012 E93)?

thnx

Do not use Ista P with a K/D can cable .
You should always get Inpa going first for anything.
Ista D will work with anything.
Especially the E series.
F and G work with Esys which only requires a ethernet
cable as far as I know.

Thanks! ctuna

Does INPA = BMW Standard Tools (included in)?
Thanks. I will try ISTA-D again.
I have not run ICOM software (clone) yet. Maybe that will help.

Good to know. Still my installed ISTA-D (4.20 2019) freezes during full vehicle test.
