Is it necessary to polish?

I have a 5 week old car and wanted to wax it. Is it necessary to polish it before waxing it? Is it better to buy a sealant? I was thinking of buying Zaino products but didn't know which to buy since their website is pretty cluttered. I have a silver (exterior) on black e90.

if there aren't any swirls, then there's no need to polish imo. this topic is debatable though
