Hands free for $ 1

Over on the bmwfaq forum (Spanish) there is a thread about a simple and very cheap way to get hands free in the car. My Spanish is not good and I was wondering if there is anyone here that could translate how it works. It has something to do with connecting a cable and the aux-connection.
Here is the link: http://www.bmwfaq.com/showthread.php?t=106804
Thanks to anyone that can help.

I guess that's better than the post of a guy with a cell phone attached to his head with a rubber band

Well, unfortunately it's just an idea. Not tested and not functional. In fact, by the tone of the message, I really really doubt it works. He closes by saying he's a genius and should patent the idea but hasn't tried it. Basically it was just attaching a cable from earpiece outlet to aux. Obviously a flawed plan. Sorry.

I'm sorry, but as far as I can tell, if you look at the latest post, they seem to be saying it does work.

Hey they say that connecting the headset output wires to the wires in a stereo jack and plugging that in the aux jack you can hear the other person just fine. The other person listens to you on the handsfree speaker phone.
Many on that thread tried it and liked the way it works.

Excelente. Estoy estudiando espanyol. Ahora, puedo leer sobre BMWs y aprender al mismo vez. (hope that's right!)

edit: looks useful too. In my old car I mounted my phone in the air vent near the driver's window, ran the phone audio output into a car casette adapter so I had the sound through the stereo, and the microphone cable was run along the headlining to a point above the driver's window.

That's what I mean. It really doesn't sound very practical. Not to be the negative guy here but, why not just use your speaker phone as is. They also mention splicing some kind of microphone. Again, not very practical.

That's ok if you have a quiet car (ok, all BMWs except cabrios with the roof down) and no passengers. Being able to adjust the phone volume with the wheel controls is very handy (but I'm not paying £500 for the bluetooth kit)

I don't know much about after-market bluetooth kits but, i'm sure I"ve seen them just over $150. That's not too bad.

im not sure if this would be available for you or if it is something you might do.

here in the states and probably other places you could buy adaptors that plug into the regular headset jack on your cell phone that would make it compatable for the bluetooth headsets.

I have a Sony Ericsson k500i. If I look at the SE-website I don't find what you talk about for my phone.

Actually puck, since I had both cars updated with the latest software both cars are working 100% with the bluetooth! It's great.

I forget that in the non-U.S. markets a lot of options are ala carte, but I consider bluetooth an essential function in any car I would buy. It's not that I yak on the phone a lot, but I have a 2 hour per day commute and it's very nice - and SAFE.

If you don't have BT in the car, there are (as has been said) may aftermarket solutions for hands free phone kits. Don't buy a BMW and then say you don't have a few bucks for hands free.

Okay, okay... relax. I do realize that these options are much more expensive in Europe. Still, there has to be a better solution than just velcroing your phone to your head...
