N55 JB4 Overboost/AFR Issue
Hi All,
Newer to this forum and am having a bit of issue with my JB4 tune on an otherwise bone stock car. Purchased used a few months back and got around to installing this weekend. Install was pretty straight forward, previous owner had some settings in there that required adjustment i.e. Oil gauge hijack to IAT, gauges read for 135i, and a small few other things. After initial install, you could tell there was a bit more power, but not much. Put maybe 30 miles on it, mainly freeway, but was not impressed. Went home and did some research and realized that it had an old firmware update. Did an update, went for a test drive, and WAY more power. Great! But...car did a 2 hazard flash and jumped into Map 4. I didn't realize this was a safety feature and tried it a couple more times with the same result. Did one last run and the CP blew. Limped it back home and back to researching after installing an ARM CP (had one ready to go). Besides the standard note from BMS; which eludes to a likely O2 sensor fault, is there anything else I should be looking at as potential fail points? Note, the log is in MAP 1, which targets 13psi. I'm experiencing near 20, obviously likely the issue, but what could be the cause? Logged a map and linked below. Thanks in advance for your help! https://datazap.me/u/vtn86/map-1?log...-5-9-18&solo=4 |

1. Definitely stop driving it with the jb4 enabled, that AFR is way too lean and is knocking.
2. Post your JB4 settings or attach the csv so we can see what they are. 3. Also, do you have a Jb4 bef? This is a flash tune that supplements the JB4 - it's not necessary, but just curious. 4. Also the cars ecu has a stock flash, right? 5. No other fails points if you're only planning to run map1. - I would recommend an oil catch can to keep crap out of the intake. BMS sells one that is great. 6. Also, do you have the MAF sensor installed? I believe it's no longer needed, but can't remember if you also need to make an adjustment on the JB4 settings: "Plug 3 (MAF sensor, purple) is no longer used for any application. If you have an older harness with a purple patch on it you can cut it off the harness or tuck it out of the way unused. " http://www.burgertuning.com/instructions/n55_stage1.pdf

2. Not 100% sure which settings you want me to post - is this something that can be screen shot from the "settings" tab on the bluetooth app? 3. No BEF 4. Yes 5. Plan to do a few things in the future, but just want it to run well on basic settings first. 6. Yes on MAF sensor, would prefer to run it if possible. Thanks for your response! |

Latest update. Changed all the user settings to default, similar results although overall the Tmap setting appears to have smoothed things out quite a bit. Will post updated log tonight.

Seems like you are using ISO firmware with the non-ISO board. See directions on how to convert linked here:

There is only one you need to cut. You don't have to remove it completely if you don't want to. Just cut one leg and bend it out of the way.

Did the ISO mod. Not doing the safety trigger anymore. Here are the updated logs for Map 1 and Map 5 post ISO update. The AFR around just before 3k rpm are concerning but besides that, it appears we're in much better shape! I imagine this is something running a BEF should clean up unless there's something else you guys spot. Thanks for your help!

Your JB4 settings should match the ISO default settings here:
![]() Also, again you need to remove the JB4 MAF connector on the JB4 from your MAF sensor as it's no longer used. You don't remove the stock MAF connector - you just leave it as if it was stock plugged in. See this video for more info. I set the video to start at 4:33 where they talk about this:

Post your settings again - screenshots of each area of the app are fine or how you typed it out above.

I thought those were the flex fuel wires...here are the updates.
One thing I did notice immediately once I plugged the wires up like OE, is that the FP_H was hovering at 14-17 at idle/slow cruise rather than 4-7. https://datazap.me/u/vtn86/log-15356...log=0&data=1-4 Firmware 5/17//1 Interface JB4 iOS 8461 Engine E Series - N55 TMAP_V 2 AvgIgn 6.7 DWP 60 MethTriggerMode 0 FF 100 MethSafeMode 0 MethAdd 0 MethScale 0 MethPSI 0 VIN ...2BNN22068 E85_Setup 0 VFF_Offset 132 fuel_30 10 fuel_35 20 fuel_40 20 fuel_45 30 fuel_50 35 fuel_55 40 fuel_60 40 fuel_65 40 fuel_70 40 BoostSafety 18 PID Gain 25 AutoShiftRed 60 Fuel_OL 60 FUA 0 1st_limiter 0 2nd_limiter 0 3rd_limiter 0 FUD 0 N20_TMAP 0 6CylMode 0 LastSafety 1 duty_15 0 duty_20 0 duty_25 0 duty_30 0 duty_35 0 duty_40 0 duty_45 0 duty_50 0 duty_55 0 duty_60 0 duty_65 0 duty_70 0 Last edited by vtn86; 08-30-2018 at 12:46 AM.. |

Lastest log looks normal, AFR is how it's mapped out within the DME. Only way to richen it up if you wanted to do that would be to add the back end flash map but no need. Biggest issue I see is lack of octane, can you mix in E85 for more power on map5?

More than willing to do a BEF, but thought this JB4 should be able to run fine on its own. The latest log actually hit a safety with those wires not connected and the factory plug used. Will mix in some e85 once I’m comfy with the setup on normal fuel! Any thoughts around the fp_h readings?
Should I leave the plug undone or plug it back in... Last edited by vtn86; 08-30-2018 at 10:05 AM.. |

Random thought, is there any way the Jb4 already thinks there’s a BEF and isn’t adjusting afr as expected?
Edit: never mind on this question. Last edited by vtn86; 08-30-2018 at 11:23 PM.. |

Here's the latest...
BEF installed. Getting a little tiresome. Overboost safety. Any settings I should change with BEF? https://datazap.me/u/vtn86/log-15356...log=0&data=1-4 |
