FBO Requirements / Preventive Maintenance

I'm looking to go FBO on my 6 speed manual 335is. I just want to make sure I have all the required mods to support the power for 91 pump gas.

My list so far:
-Charge pipe + Diverter valves
-Intake + Inlets
-Intercooler
-Downpipes
-Oil catch can
-MHD + custom tune

My question is. Do I need any of these? If not all, then which? Am I missing something?
1-New spark plugs
2-New coils
3-PCV valve
4-Walnut blasting
5-LPFP

What year and how many miles do you have? When was the last time these items were addressed?

2012, 71,000 miles. Spark plugs were changed about 12,000 miles ago. No idea about the coils, I'm a new owner. Walnut blasting was never done.

If walnut blasting has never been done you should get that done. Otherwise go forward with your mods. I would advise you to set a bit extra aside for spark plugs, coils, and the like. You will likely find those need replacing after you bolt on your mods and tune it. If you are not going to be running an ethanol blend you do not need an upgraded LPFP.

Pcv a must, spark plugs a must, walnut a must ,coils should but at least have spares on hand , lpfp log and stay above 50 ,hpfp 1500 and might want keep eye on injectors depending on your index

#1-4 are a must.
#5 - I would monitor through MHD logs unless you plan to run e30 or more.

Unlike some on here who think preventative maintenance is a waste of money, you are better off getting the parts now to save yourself headaches in the future

1-4, yes. 5, no. Also might want to look into the NGK(colder) plugs instead of stock Bosch.

Which are the correct ones for my application? I'll be running 91 pump gas, probably close to 400 whp.

NGK 97506 (2 step colder) gapped @ .018".

Or

NGK 95770 (1 step colder) gapped @. 022"

Most people often have coils go bad after an MHD tune, it's recommended to have spares or replace them as another member stated above.

I did my research and followed the advice from members to purchase Eldor Coils. Apparently they are better than BOSCH OEM, and Delphi Coils.

They can be purchased here for a great price @ $174 for 6. Roughly $30 each.
It comes with 2 years warranty as well.

After reading a lot of discussions on inlets, it seems I might be wasting my time and money installing inlets.

Will I be getting any performance improvements from inlets on 91 pump gas? I can't find any before and after dynos.

Nit without a tune. All youd be doing is making it easier for your turbos to breathe, so you might hit target boost more quickly, but wont make more power without tuning for it. It could extend the life of your turbos, in theory.

Just for a reference I just installed inlets/outlets on my car. Already had DPs, exhaust, intake, charge pipe and JB4 installed. Plus I run the same 91 gas as you do.

I think the inlets made more of a difference but wow. For the same power the car pulls a lot easier. effortless especially 4K up to redline compared to before. It isn't super easy to install my any means but if you are a DIYer or can turn a wrench then its absolutely doable.

Did you dyno before and after? Any numbers/logs? Did you change your tune?

That's the thing. There's a lot of "theory" being passed around that it's better for the turbos, faster spooling, etc... I'm not seeing any numbers.

Never dynoed the car; Just an obvious feeling before and after. JB4 I use Map 1 and Map5 and I'm sure the car made the same power. No boost gauge yet so I cant tell peak boost.

Honestly its just plain fluid dynamics. If you look at the stock inlets they are do tiny on the I.D. Its not surprising it chokes the oem turbos at higher rpm. There is a reduction in size from the compressor housing inlet that is substantial .

There are dynos around somewhere that's shows a noticeable decrease in boost taper higher up. Put a tube on the end of your vacuum that is the same size or larger vs one have the diameter. I bet you hear the motor start working a little harder
