328i PCV valve heater recall post-3IM conversion

Hey all.

Called my local dealer to get my recall work scheduled for the PCV valve heater Recall Campaign 17V-683 (and the blower motor wiring, but that's another story)

When I did my 3IM install I used my original PCV valve heater.

My plan is to simply inform the service person of this fact when I drop it off.

Has anyone already gone through a similar scenario? Should I expect confusion or flak from the dealership, or will this process be as straightforward as my E46 airbag recall?

Not sure that a stage3 has anything to really do with the PCV other than hanging over it. They probably won't even notice. It's failure or potential failure isn't really affected by anything that the stage3 could do to it so I wouldn't expect any flak.

The only difference would be the 2 disa plugs not showing up in the tech’s tutorial on how to do the job. A seasoned tech probably wouldn’t even use the tutorial anyway and would know about those plugs, but a novice might just be following step by step directions and get confused for about 30 seconds.

I wouldn’t even mention the car has a 3 Stage I doubt they would even know the difference... but be prepared to double check they plug the disas back in because their reassembly instructions won’t have that step.

Also tell them not to flash your ecm with any updates. That would be the bigger problem. While my car was being serviced I had my ecm flashed on top of my aftermarket tune and it was a nightmare to get the aftermarket tuning sorted out and reinstalled again.

Has anyone confirmed how they access the PCV elbow? The documentation I saw showed that they remove the alternator to gain access

Alternator removal is the simplest and quickest to do it. Other way would be removal of the intake manifold which is too much work compared to the alternator alternative.

I had both recalls done not too long ago. Not sure about getting any pushback from them. I work for Honda and the only recall we can't do with modifications is the fuel pump recall on odyssey's if the vehicle has been converted. As long as nothing is in the way or makes the job impossible to do, a recall is a recall. From what I understood (and this is going back a month or so) is that the recall hasn't been fully released and they are saving available parts for if those items have actually failed. Once the recall is in full swing, they will do the recalls on all affected vehicles. Hope this helps.
