Joyriide Detailed: Montego Blue E90 335i

Joyriide Detailed: Montego Blue E90 335i
1.5 years old with 10,000 miles.

Owner of this car had come to me a few months ago trying to score a detail to remove some light scratches and hologramming in the paint. Never heard from him again until last week. Upon receipt of the car, I was quick to notice that other than the caked wheels, most of the exterior paint was in decent shape in terms of bonded contaminants and grime. After a thorough cleaning,
I put the car under lights and went to town. The heat was unbearable. It was cooler with the garage closed and a fan blowing than it was with the garage door open. I was expecting my polishes to act up, but ironically, they behaved better than I ever expected them to under these conditions. I was throwing the polisher upside down, one handed, 2000rpms, and they would not act up. I switched my pads maybe 3 times the most and dusting still stayed to a minimum. Surprising, considering that I normally have to wear a mask while using the Menzerna twins to prevent inhalation of all the dust in the air. The finish on this car came out BEAUTIFUL. Montego Blue is such an eye popping color that when done right, looks like a jewel. I decided to go with FK1 1000p since I was not up for Zaino this time (last few times Zaino acted up do to the humidity and would smear all over the place). Engine was not detailed, and Interior only received a vac and wipe.

Exterior

P21S Wheel Gel.
Meguiars Wheel Brightner
*Spot use only, using gloves and mask and avoiding any skin contact. Ask me why?
Meguiars Super Degreaser
Gold Class Wash

Claymagic Blue
Menzerna SIP via Purple Foam Wool @ 1500rpms
*Spot use
Menzerna SIP via White Polishing pad @ 1200-2000rpms
Menzerna 106ff via Grey Finishing pad @ 1000rpms.
Prep Sol wipe down
FK1 1000p
*paint, wheels, and exhaust.
Mothers FX Tire Shine
Meguairs Hyper Dressing
*wheel wells
HTEC via 00 steel wool
*exhaust

Before

I started the detail that morning weighing 168.5lbs, and finished the detail at 164.5lbs. Mind you all that was with about a gallon of water and food breaks every 3 hours. I had drips of sweat all around my work space.

After

*I have been feeling dehydrated a lot lately while detailing, even though I consume plenty of carbs and liquids throughout the job. The heat lately is nothing to take lightly, so everyone should take note to consume plenty of water and food while working outside for extended hours

Nice job. I do not miss summers in Florida. Heat, humidity, afternoon rain, more humidity. Unbearable.

Pedialyte is an excellent way to stay hydrated. It is not just for kids.

WOW! that came out nice. My car is montego blue as well and it sure pops nice when done right. I just used Griot's clay, Menzerna P0106ff, cg 109, & cg 50/50 with their synthetic qd. and yes!! it pops.
I love the reflections that come out. But I sure as hell am not taking any pictures of my reflection, I will spare you guys.....you're welcome.

Thanks. I can only count on the owner to chime in soon and comment on how "EXACT" these pics are. I take all my pics in Auto, so there is less user involvement as possible. Montego blue looks awesome when pollished finely and when topped with a shiney candy like sealant like 1000p, it just seems right!

Meguiars Wheel Brightner
*Spot use only, using gloves and mask and avoiding any skin contact. Ask me why?
BTW, the reason for this was because I had an open flesh wound and used some acid based cleaner on some painted wheels. When the acid came in contact with my skin, it stung like crap, so I rinsed and cleaned my hands and continued with gloves. 3 days later, after the wound healed a bit, my spot was really tender (like a nasty bruise) and began bruising. The tenderness went away, but the bruise stuck around for a good month. I always new of the precautions when handling acids, and even read all the horror health stories, but I fugured a product like Megs WB was probably safe enough. I rather spend an extra 10 minutes agitating some wheels than skimp the time and resort to acid. I will only use it when ABSOLUTELY necessarily, which after all the details for the month of June, has only resulted in one car.

nice work and your photo skills are also improving as well. I think all you detailers are on the homeland security watch list due to your vast knowledge of chemical compound

Great Work bro! Montego always looks great when detailed right. The heat must be torture down in FL. I see you had your garage door closed. You may want to invest in some panel insulation for the door to help reflect the heat.
