E90 Heated seat Retrofit for non prewired cars development thread

Since my heated seats are in unknown working condition I am just going to strip the covers and put them on my factory seats.

I need your help, does anyone know what connectors I need for the X275 seat connector? Also the connectors that go into the fuse box? If anyone has a parts car and wants to sell me there seat connectors send me a DM.

You don't need to run additional power wires if you already have power seats. Just connect the 2 power and 2 ground wires together on the back side of the seat connector using posi-tap connectors. I did it this way 2 years ago and have never blown a fuse. You will need to run a couple of small wires to the passenger side. Just look for the missing small wires on the passenger side connector.

The attached PDF shows a full retrofit. You probably already have most of the wiring if you have power. I added heated, power, lumbar to replace my power seats in my 06 325i. I can answer most questions if I can remember what I did 2 years ago. Make sure to use the drivers side heated module. Your old one won't work with heat wiring.

It turns out they changed the wiring post 3/2007 cars. That is why my passenger seat will not work and I just wasted hours leather swapping my seats.

yes, they are changed because fuse box changed and all fuse numbers changed but why this is problem ? the number of the wires is same, you'll only need to repin them if you had electrically adjustable seats before
and i wonder why you wrote that nobody finished that retrofit while many people made seat upgrades and many of them wrote their questions and got answers on that forum
i've made full upgrade going from non-heated non-sport manual seats to full electric, sport, heated with lumbar support

Good point, I was not looking at electric seat conversations.

I found the passenger side connector guide and re wired the harness.

free screen capture software

My donor frames, air and motors work!

After 14 hours of work I finished swapping the seat frames between to donor seats and my original seats. It turns out from the factory BMW ran power to the drivers seat with one 12 gauge and a 18 gauge for the drivers side seat. I am sure running only running 1 12 gauge wire to power the seats will be perfectly fine. I soldered up all the wires and everything is working except the heated seats. My new climate control comes tomorrow and I need to run some data lines to the passenger seat.

I am going to write a DIY on this after I finish my CIC + Combox guide.

Are you going with LCI climate control that have heat buttons in the control? I am doing a LCI CIC dash soon and may do that, My original seat swap 2 years ago just added the buttons to the bottom and there was a plug available in the climate control for the new wiring.

I am on my 3rd set of seats and I don't put them back together. These are non sport and sell for more in pieces on ebay. Individual covers/cushions in good condition sell well and are easy to ship. Plus you have modules, occupancy mats, lumbar systems and so on.

Many times the donor frames are bent from the accident. The seat belt attachment point gets pulled forward 1/2" and bends the crumple zone just behind the power controls. My garbage men just picked up 2 frames yesterday. If there is a gap between the curved front edge of the plastic side covering and the leather, it may be bent.

Un-clip the yellow connector from the seat frame and remove the tape from the wire. You will see 2 thick red wires which are power and 2 think brown wires which are ground. All the other wires are thin. No look at the car side of the yellow plug. If there is only one red and one brown you need to connect the reds and brown together on the seat side.

The chart above is a visual aid for some of this.

To make the new seat's power lumbar and bolsters work, I would connect the red wire from Pin 7/9 to Pin 4, and the brown wire from Pin 13 to Pin 8?

Thanks in advance for your help!
I would disconnect the seat connector and find out before you buy anything. I believe on +03/2007 cars if you have memory seats you will have all of the wires for heated, lumber, ect seats.

I finished my retrofit tonight and everything is working.

I had to run a PWM cable to the module inside the fuse box and I added the ignition cable to my heated steering wheel / ACC harness. I eventually want to suck it up and pull my fuse box to wire everything OEM. I am still iffy on the one 12 gauge power wire idea for the seats and having three thing running off my cig outlet delete harness.

Looks nice. Any tips for finding a CIC aluminum console? That is the one part I still need to find for my 06.

Honestly I would buy one new. I paid $165 for my trim and it has a few more dings then I wanted on it. For 180$ go to bmw of morristown and order it there.

OK thanks. The console trim is the only CIC part I could not steal from my parts car. I am going to do a full dash swap with factory wiring to the screen and controller.

I have e91 318d 2007 (non LCI) which originally has base mechanical non heated cloth seats. Now I bought mechanical leather heated sport seats and I need to retrofit heating function. Maybe anyone has photos or info which wiring I need to add? I not have understanding at diagrams, so the photos or video what actually need to do would be the best way. Thank you in advance.
