Road Trip: Bay Area to Seattle

Hey guys,

A few buddies and me are driving up to Seattle (from the Bay Area) for the Jul 4 weekend. If any of you have done some or all of this route, would love to hear your suggestions. We plan on stopping @ Eureka and then MAYBE make a night halt en-route.

Depart: 2pm Thursday
Night driving with the brightest adaptive lights -- AMAZING!

Thanks!
Mayank

PAKMAN,

6 Hours WoW .. was that due to traffic, bad road or just it was a van?

We can't leave any earlier as we all are working and will be leaving work midday. We might be able to make it 1pm but that is about it.

Thanks!

What's the point of your roadtrip? I don't mean it negatively, but are you trying to get to Seattle quickly, or a more scenic drive that will take longer?

Obviously the quickest route is via I-5. That is a little over 800 miles. and should take about 13 hours.

A more scenic route is Hwy-101 all the way up the coast. The distance is about 100 miles longer (900), but the estimated time jumps to around 19 hours. It reconnects with I-5 in Olympia to continue the journey north to Seattle.

The 101 route will also take you through a lot of the Oregon beach towns, like Cannon Beach and Seaside. Neat little towns.

If I was making the trip and had the time, I'd take 101 all the way.

I have done this a couple times. And driven Both ways The 5 and 101. Like scollins said if you want a pretty drive go 101 if you want quickness go the I-5. Also If you want you can stop by the redwoods half way through! Id Love to see some pics of a 3 Series inside a tree! Anyways have a good fourth and Safe Driving!

Nice, I just did that drive 3 weeks ago from Seattle. Non-stop from Bay Area to Seattle takes about 12 hours. Even though I don't really stop every time I make the drive, here are some suggestions:
1. Fuel up right when you enter Oregon as the gas is cheaper there. When you leave Salem and heading towards Portland, stop by Wilsonville for the cheapest gas in the west coast
2. If you want the Oregon's equivalent of In-N-Out, go to Burgerville. Their southernmost restaurant is in Albany, OR, which is just north of Eugene, and the northernmost restaurant is in Centralia, WA, about 40 minutes south of Olympia.
3. Portland has a lot of breweries for microbrew
4. Try to get gas before you enter Olympia as it will be expensive in Seattle area.

PM me if you want more info about Seattle. Have fun driving!

WoW you guys are amazing.. THANKS!

The point is to get to Seattle and have fun doing so. Since we are leaving @ ~2pm I wanted to drive up 1/101 during the day to enjoy the scenery. Then move to 5 for the night drive, as I am assuming I wont really see much so it wont be worth the additional miles or gas or time.

Gas tips are AMAZING specially with gas @ its current price -- Thanks.

Any advice on cops and are they as reasonable like in Bay Area where going 15/20 over (80/85 on a 65) is OK?

Places to stay @ night -- incase we need to stop probably before Portland some where in OR on I-5?

Also will be doing a similar route on the way back but might do some 1/101 stuff in OR. Any suggestions there would be great!
