After effects of Outlet(s)??

How many of you have installed Outlets on your car that has downpipes and noticed that your exhaust is much quieter?

This is for those who only have the Outlets.

I imagine those cars that have Inlets (and do not have Outlets) are probably louder.

I'm not sure if having one cancels out the other as far as volume of your exhaust/downpipes but I think when I get an Inlet that the volume of my exhaust and downpipes will come back.

Can anyone add any input on this, what did you notice about the way your exhaust or downpipes sound??

N55 (I am) but this is in general.

Basically did anyone else's exhaust sound/tone get lower?

I think the confusion was due to you using plurals. "Outlets and downpipes" We only have one turbo so one outlet and one downpipe. I didn't install the outlet before bringing the 335i back to stock. I will on the X1 but I wouldn't expect to see much of a change in anything, sound or performance.

The only reason to replace the outlet on a N55 is if your stock plastic one break. I can't possibly see it changing exhaust/turbo sound.

To be fair my stock one never broke but had a boost leak. I fixed it by buying another clamp and clocking it 90 degrees off the first one. You could replace it to fix a boost leak.

True, I see a boost leak as broken. My stock one ovaled at the IC clamp causing a boost leak, I'd call that broken.

That makes sense. Mine never lost it's shape, the silicone coupler just wouldn't seat correctly with only one clamp.

I am FBO with inlet and outlet on the stock turbo. No difference in exhaust noise, but I will say I can slightly hear the turbo more. I did both at the same time. I am slightly hearing impaired so maybe not the best opinion... haha!

The inlet does make a pretty big difference. I am also slightly hearing impaired. The inlet plus the GFB DV+ sounds amazing.

The same thing happened to mine which is why I changed it but my car is noticeably quieter than it was before this change was made.

my apologies for that, sometimes I forget that I have to be specific when talking N55 or N54 but this is an N55 forum so I was assuming that everyone here was N55 first.

I’d imagine if you had a boost leak before that you’d get more “turbo” sounds from the air leaking out. I’ll be installing my outlet along with FMIC next week so I can report back on my experience.
