This has been beaten to death here and on bimmerfest. Do a search in both forums' detailing sections. You do not need to live with black exhaust tips!

Chemical Guys - Grime Reaper.
50/50 mix / spray on the tips while you wash the car..... get a sort of a scrubber... Heres what you do. Wash up the car (intending I have a powerwasher/but regular hose is surely fine.) (Rinse with water) Grime reaper the pipes (let it sit about 5-10 mins) Wash off... Grime reaper again/scrub until release (This is pretty strong shit that degreases and works well/you will notice the grease on the floor in a brown spot....) Wash/wash car with soap for shine! |

Try Eagle One Nevr-Dull Wadding Polish:
http://www.eagleone.com/pages/produc...=1006&cat=5006 The can contains cotton "wadding" that you tear off and rub on the metal. I've used it on various exhaust tips, including the 335i, and other metal, and it's much easier and cleaner than most products. Wipe the tips on the 335i once every week or so and it won't build up to the point where you have to do any real work to clean it. Around $5 at many auto parts stores, and the can will last a long time. |

Soap + scrubbing... have you tried actually cleaning them? I've never had a problem getting exhaust tips clean on any car I've owned. Not meaning to be rude, but just grab a towel that can get dirty, grab some soap, and go to town. Carbon will come off.

+1. Matte black ceramic coat would cost you around $75.
Any powdercoating/chroming shop in your area should be able to do that
