SpaceX Satellite Launch from Last Night (10/7/18)
Took these pictures last night from outside my house of the satellite launch. I've never seen anything like it. It was pretty dang cool. Anybody else see it?

Very cool.
I grew up just outside of Cape Canaveral, FL in the 80's. We used to always watch the shuttle launches and drove out to the Canaveral viewing area a couple of times. It was so cool. I remember anytime a shuttle was going up, we would get to leave the classroom if at school to go and watch it - this included the Challenger disaster. We all thought that it looked a bit odd, then the principle came in a few minutes later and told us all what happened. Was pretty rough for a 4th grader. I sat on a board in Santa Monica and the COB was good friends with Musk. We were able to secure a private tour of Space-X including watching how they made most of the parts with high tech 3D printers. Also got to go into the control room, where there were only about 2 or 3 girls in their 20's manning everything (multiple PhD's I am sure, though). This was in 2014-2015. Very cool. Very impressive things Space-X is doing. |

But you sound so ancient sometimes. I watched it (the coverage) at home at lunch (we were allowed to leave HS for lunch) on CNN w/Bernard Kalb. |

Yeah, I was in elementary school in Deland, FL at the time. My friend and I were really into the shuttle so we both noticed that the launch looked very different than the last ones we had seen, but didn't really understand why nor did we think anything bad had happened. After a while, the principle wheeled a TV on a stand into the classroom and turned it on to the news showing what happened. Was pretty hard core. |

I was big into the space program during those years. The movie Space Camp came out that year and coincidentally my father took us to Kennedy Space center that year for a tour. I'm pretty sure I still have some freeze dried ice cream from there. Years later my father became friends with whoever take pictures of the launches for NASA. I have some great shots that he had emailed my father over the years. |

That's pretty cool. Yep, we had annual field trips to KSC all through school - been there many many times and always got the ice cream, not sure why. I had an awesome photo from one of the launches up close, but have no idea where it ended up. |

I saw it a little after the separation. Was pretty awesome, especially at the latter stages where it looked like a comet. lol
