Nav system locked up on boot
I started my car (07), drove off towards my destination, and happened to look at the nav screen about ten minutes later. It was stuck at the Warning/OK message. I tried to select the OK via iDrive, but nothing happened. I also couldn't change Sirius stations via the wheel or panel buttons. The only thing that comes to mind as different was that when I initially started the car, I apparently didn't hold the button long enough to make it crank; it simply lit up the electronics. Note this was not a "cranks but won't fire over" issue as seen with faulty fuel pumps. I pressed and held the button a second time and the engine started right up. It was sometime after that that I noticed the frozen display.
When I got to where I was going, I turned the car off, let the screen go blank, then restarted. This time, it came up to the (bronze) BMW screen, and stayed there. As before, the buttons seemed non-functional. Just for grins, while the car was still running, I ejected the nav disc and reinserted it, but that made no difference. I gave up, turned it off, and went in to eat dinner. When I eventually returned, I started the car, and the nav system is back to normal. Anyone seen this before? |

Yep, happens quite often with the iDrive as others have posted, me included. In fact, it has been pretty much the only problem I've had with my car. Sometimes it's fixed by replacing a part or two or three or four. Other times it's fixed with a software reboot, aka, BMW three finger salute: hold both ejects buttons and the volume button down together although this has never worked for me while others have had success. Still other times it requires a software reload.
It has been suggested that this is a symptom of an incompatible phone (?) but nobody can explain that.

B. If it's an iPhone then I'd take it in for service if it happens again. You'll likely get a software reload.
