Smile Front Seatbelts with wiring?

I recently acquired a set of black front seat belts from my friends 2013 m3 competition and when I took out my beige seatbelts there was no electrical connector. The new ones work the same but there is an electrical connector, any idea what this is for? I've looked on google and through ISTA and couldn't find any definitive answers. The only thing I can think of is maybe an electronic tensioner that tightens to the driver and passenger once they plug in the seatbelt. Thanks!
