Coolant level dropping, white smoke, N55
Hi everyone,
First post, hoping someone can provide advice. I recently noticed low coolant in my 2011 335xi (light turned on). Brought it in to an Indy shop, got it leak tested and they said it held pressure for 30 minutes, they saw no signs of a leak and just needed a splash of coolant. Didn’t think much of it. Approx 1 month later same thing coolant light. Added about a cup of DI water but now notice white smoke coming out of exhaust just after starting which quickly goes away (after a couple minutes). Seems like head gasket leak but is there anything else I should check or any diagnostic checks that can be done to determine if it’s something else? Friend suggested intake manifold leak and a forum post suggested oil filter housing gasket leak (but I don’t understand how that would make it to combustion chamber). Additional info: oil cap looks clean, no milky build up or anything, coolant looks clean don’t see signs of oil in coolant. Doesn’t appear to be any noticeable oil leaks on engine besides rear seal sweating which I knew about. Oil level might be dropping a little over time but not significant (500 mL over past three months maybe) but I attributed this to my rear main seal sweating slightly. Any suggestions would be appreciated. |
