Thinking of a respray..

So does a respray of the front and rear bumpers lower the price of the car? I'm just curious because I have an 07 335i coupe that has a decent bit of chips on the front bumper. The rear bumper has a couple little "dings" from maybe a license plate bracket hitting it. All in all, it bothers me to even have smaller dings on this car. We have a family friend that paints high end automobiles and has painted a couple panels on my m3. I'm thinking of having him respray the front and rear bumpers of the 335i, but I don't know if I ever trade it in are they going to be d!cks about it..you know? I sold my hummer a couple months ago and they did that test with their fingers on all the body parts. I'm sure they would do that on the 335i, but if it wasn't in an accident and the paint looks good does it matter.

Thanks guys,
Mike

Generally, the bumpers are hard to tell if they are repainted, if the painter is good. The plastic bumpers very rarely exactly match the color of the metal painted parts - just look at new cars on the lot, especially red cars, to my eye. Just cover up the rest of the car to prevent overspray or better yet paint them off of the car. If they are painted off of the car, you have to make sure the reinstallation is good to keep the gaps even though.

I repaint my front bumper at the local shop, and the shop is dealership certified so I don't worry about mismatched color. For $350, it worth every penny....

I wouldn't worry about it. I doubt the dealer would ever notice unless the paint doesn't match. If you have a good shop to go to, then by all means go for it, especially if minor imperfections really get under your skin.

IIRC most paint thickness meters can only read on metal panels, so they probably wouldnt even know the bumper was repainted unless the job was bad

Thanks for all the comments guys! ha. Does anybody know how to find a dealer certified bodyshop? Do you just need to go to a BMW dealer and ask to speak with their bodyshop. I looked at one 335i that needed to go "through the shop" they said to get the extended warranty. The rear bumper was beat up so they needed to fix it so it could be a certified pre-owned.

Just asking so I can see the price difference from my guy and the other bodyshops.
