Roadforce balance weights unacceptable?
The skinny---I ordered a set of wheels and tires from Tirerack. I requested Tirerack "roadforce" mount and balance.
When I received the tires/wheels I noticed two of the tires required nearly 3.5 ounces of weights (assuming they were balanced properly) whereas the other two wheel/tires needed less than half an ounce. Is this acceptable for new/wheel tires, do you guys have any thoughts? Should I return the set?

What if I told you the wheels were not cheap, BBS RS-GT cheap?
So if I can translate, this would be unacceptable for "non-cheep" wheels.

I wouldn't accept it for an expensive set of wheels. If they were 1500 or less for the set though you had it coming.

That was my gut reaction, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't being unreasonable in my expectations.

What tires did you order? Cheap tires can throw off your balance too.

Pilot Sport PS2s, so I think either the tires are out of round or the wheel is defective.

sounds like a very nice setup you got....other than the balance issue. Hope you can get it resolved.

That's about 100g. The stock TPMS weighs about 60g. It's odd that two wheels only require less than 0.5oz of weights.....

For the small population that isn't familiar with Roadforce balance, can you enlighten us with the difference between Roadforce and non-Roadforce? What are the indications for Roadforce balancing?

i had a really cool tech dial in the balance by rotating the tire on the wheel on my cheapo csl rep/general combo. he spent +20 mins on one tire (deflate/rotate tire/inflate/re-balance/repeat) and had my final balance down to 1.1 from +4oz. hope you get yours worked out bubbles as thats a nice wheel/tire combo!

100g is not that much. It's normal imo. It doesnt even need to be because of the wheels, the tires may be unbalanced, too. But as I say, 100g isn't bad at all.

I wouldn't be concerned about it. My fathers 911 came with 3 to 4 ounces on each wheel with PS2's. The time and effort to get rid of wheel weights is not worth the time and effort especially if they are balanced.

look at the tire - there should be a yellow circle on the tire - and it should be lined up with the valve stem - and there should also be a red circle (both are small) that should be opposite the valve stem...(some tires don't have the yellow circle) - red circle should be mounted opposite valve stem.
the spot marked on the tire w/ a small yellow circle is the lightest spot of the tire. |
