hard drive external connection - suggestions?
Hi all
has anyone successfully hooked up an external hard drive for storing and playing media from on their cic in the armrest? I'm after the option of having a big library to choose from. I have tried a couple of ssds in a usb powered enclosure and although they read, they don't show in the multimedia as an option to browse like my usb sticks do. any ideas or suggestions are more than welcome. thank you Steve |

What is the partition format on the larger drives?
Portable USB Keys are often FAT32, while larger hard drives are formatted as NTFS. It is likely that the CIC cannot read NTFS formatted drives. Keep in mind that FAT32 is limited in Windows to 32GB, and the spec is limited to 2TB. |

It is indeed a NTFS file system. Not all USB memory sticks are FAT32 due to bigger storage that they have these days, most are now NTFS which my CIC does read. If I rephrase my question slightly, Why would a 32gb USB stick work, and a say 120gb External hard drive not? Both have power, both NTFS file system. I have tried a couple of Hard drives with the same enclosure. I've jus reformatted my ssd to exfat and see I'll that would make a difference, I don't particularly want to purchase a large capacity usb drive if I have the kit already. Thanks |

Tried my ssd formatted to FAT32. Gets further know to where it's being read, but was still reading 10 mins later. I presume it's doing some sort of indexing and need to leave it a bit longer?

put every album in a separate directory without spaces in its name and everything will work

usb works fine. external powers on and spins but doesn't detect or it does and never reads. I think it may be the enclosure I have so will look for a decent external in the meantime. Every car I've had I've replaced the stock head unit with upgraded version and this is the only car I don't actually want to and would like to keep it how it is. |

found out my issue was the shoddy caddy I have/had. Connection for power was fine and powered the drive, but communication connection was hit and miss. new caddy on order. Found a bigger hard drive to use and will put some music videos on there too.
Next to code is VIM. |

quick question guys...I'm still having some issues with reading known working hard drives.
I've found my cic to be version c09 and I'm wondering will it not support some of these drives I'm inserting? |
