5800 Miles, Alert says Oil Below Minimum
I haven't brought it in for service yet, never changed my oil once, though been wanting to.
My dealer should replace my oil since the indication came up right? or is this something I need to take care on my own. thanks.

You'll have to top the oil off yourself but if I were you I would change the oil asap. The first oil change should happen early with a brand new car, lots of detergents and various lubricants in the car when it's new.

There are a gazillion threads on here about when to change oil. It equates to this; if you lease, change it when it recommends (~14,000 miles). If you own, by recommendation of many, change every 7000 miles. In your case, you need to top off the oil ASAP. The dealer, if close, will perform this task for free with no appt needed. I just had mine topped off a couple of weeks ago.

The dealer should cover the top off. I got a service light around that many miles too which indicated +1qt. Take it in and bmw will cover it under the maintenence/service free program.

I had the same thing. Called the dealer, drove in, in 5 minutes I was on my way after they poured a quart of oil in the car. No cost.
If you're not getting this level of service I'd question your dealer. |

I keep a quart in the trunk. Should I need it I'll just add it. I only live about 15 minutes from dealer. For a $7.00 quart of oil there is no way I will waste the time.
