Brake life remaining

I have an E90 LCI 330D with 86,000km. The front and rear brake pads were changed out at 54,349km.

The car computer says that the rear pads need to be changed in 9,000km and the front in 90,000km.

Sounds a bit weird. Any thoughts?

My rear brakes have said they need to be changed in 3100 mi for over 10k miles now.

To get to 3100, it did count down from 10,000 by 1000 mi increments to 5000, then by 100 mi increments to 3100 where it has been stuck. Pads still have some meat on them, so I just ignore it for now.

The calculation for brake pad life remaining, is it based on a sensor that somehow reads the pad thickness or is it algorithm based?
