bmw are awesome in the winter time. the 50/50 weight distribution means that you really know how the car will be have in turns. You must run winter tires though, I use Blizzaks and they are amazing! It's like you're driving a fwd car with these on.
Xi doesn't reduce performace by that much but gun that gas and the car may bog down.

I had a friend who had an E46 M3 and had it totaled due to a drunk driver (this is after 2 years of owning the car), after he recovered he went and bought another brand new e46 M3 and he is loving it.
moral of the story is if you love the 335i, then get the 335i.

I dont know if I would do it over again but its not because its not a good car. Its because of this damn forum! Ever since I got the car I have been on this site and its killing my sex life/income/savings/gas mileage/mental state, etc... One day Im happy with the performance, the next day I hear about another possible tune. Then I hear about losing my warranty and I get stressed out...then I say screw it cus you never know how long you have to live so you might as well live now.
Needless to say I love my car but it has too many "what if's" and its not good for someone who may have ADHD & OCD SO, I often wonder if I would have been better getting a Prius...then again Im sure I would be looking into high performance High Output replacement electric motors so I could be the fastest commuter car in the HOV lane! Does that help? |

If you can pick up an SL55 at a good price, then do it. The SL55's are the better than the 63's. 469 Horse 5 speed tranny, lots of torque. I have a lot of hours behind the wheel of both the 335i and SL55, if I could afford to have both I would. Keep the SL55 until the winter and get the 335xi.

Sorry about your car!
I had a 99 M3 and bought an 01 S4. I really enjoyed the S4 but in the end I believe the RWD is best for spirited driving. The AWD did nothing for me in the winter. The real issues for winter driving are the tires. I you picked up a set of wheels and tires for the winter you'd probably have to spend a $1,200 and your experience would be a 100 time better. Summer tires just don't work in the winter even if you have AWD. |

Stay the Phuck away from any 3 series turbo until BMW gets the v29.2-v30 lag issue solved, and to be honest, it dosent look like it will get fixed any time soon. You will not belive the differnce between your old car the the new one. Sound, performance, you will be dissapointed unless you tune. m2c
sorry to hear about your car though

I would get the S5 for sure. It has a faster 0-60 than a stock 335i and you dont have to worry about losing your warranty. Also, its f*cking gorgeous.

I wouldn't I would buy something else that was tunable for more power. If i wanted 350 hp and absolutely not more I would do the 335 again though.
Actually, no I wouldn't, no LSD and bad suspension would keep me from doing it again. If I wanted a car with 350 hp car to race other people on the highway with I would do it again. Not to mention I will have a better chance of having warranty work done going into a dealer with a supercharged z4 then I would with a 335.
