Range Rover won’t build the sexy SV Coupe after all

The stylish throwback two-door SUV had died so the company can save some money

Land Rover is scuttling the two-door Range Rover SV Coupe to save money.

According to Auto Express, the SV Coupe will enter history without a single example being built, which is too bad because it was quite a striking vehicle, and a throwback to the original Range Rover of the early 1970s.

The SV Coupe was to be a bespoke model, with a limited production run of 999 vehicles and a price to match the exclusivity—US$295,000.

Prospective buyers were already starting to choose their options for each unique vehicle.

The move comes as Jaguar Land Rover is trying to reduce its spending by £2.5 billion ($4.3 billion) and laying off 4,500 employees. Brand growth in China is slowing, diesel cars are dying, and Brexit is also playing a hand.

The extra money saved by not building the custom Range Rover will be spent on its electric car range and the upcoming Defender.

This news comes only one day after sister company Jaguar said it will also kill the manual F-Type in North America to save some cash. While it seems like Jaguar won’t have anything cool left in its lineup, it still has plans to release a new F-Pace SVR and a special edition Velar.

I have to agree, I know some folks love them but I'm old school I like a boxy squarish SUV. My wife's dream ride is a MB G-Wagon AMG......

I really don't understand two door SUVs, myself. Or really two door trucks, for that matter.

Not surprised they canned it. Pretty niche market I imagine.
