share your Favorite Stretch of Road
I saw a topic on the 1s forums similar to this, but it was only geared to Michigan people. So I thought I would steal the idea and start a greater Great Lakes "Favorite Stretch of Road" thread of our own! Please, if you love the road there are a few things I want for you to share! First: Find it on a map, and highlight it for us! Second: any pics you can share are a plus! Third: let us know WHY you love it, what makes you hit it up and fill us in!
I will start things off. This is a stretch that I make sure I hit up at least once a summer. It will take you from Harbor Springs, Mi up to Cross Village, Mi and back. The normal routine for me is to grab some lunch in Harbor Springs, do some shopping and take in the sights! Hit the road and enjoy the drive, sometimes spots are so fun I turn around to make sure I hit them in the opposite direction, (lol). The views along this stretch are amazing with plenty of picture ops, and on the drive north there are many twists and turns through wooded areas, along bluffs overlooking Lake Michigan, and open farmlands and orchards. Once you get up to Cross Village, you can stop for dinner at the eclectic Legs Inn. They have good food, but the place is defiantly something out of the Frankenstein category. If a more normal meal is your thing, follow the route indicated for the return trip south and hit up a place on the way called The Crows Nest. They have great food and service every time I have visited! On the return trip, you will find lots of long open straight a ways, many down hill, followed by small sections with nice tight curves. The drive back is a lot quicker than you would think it would be, and should have you arriving back in Harbor Springs shortly after dark if you stayed to watch the sunset off the back patio at Legs Inn (something I highly suggest if you are there for one). Below you can find a map, route and some aerial photos of the twists and turns! ![]() ![]()
