Question Getting a BMW at or under invoice?

Is that possible? Has anyone ever been able to/know someone who has gotten their car at invoice or under?

Not without some kind of special circumstance; the most common being trunk money from BMW.

What would be the most over invoice you can typically get?

Depends on the car, year, availability, etc...

It depends on the models... right now, M3's, 1-Series, and X6's are all relatively new (more in demand) so you probably won't have as much room to bargain with. Also, a 328i sedan are sold so often, they discount those left and right... where as an M3 is new, and still rare, so they won't go nearly as low. Plus, it doesn't hurt to look at a 08' when the 09's are starting to come in... no dealer is gonna want a lot full of last years models.

All in all... the dealer still makes money, even if they sell you the car at invoice. Thats a long shot, but you can probably shoot for around $500-$1,000 over invoice which is reasonable. Personally I wouldn't go higher than that.

Hi,

I ordered my 08' 328i Coupe around the 3rd week of June for just under Invoice price.
Here's the price:
MSRP: $41,070
Invoice: $37,890
My Deal: $37,500

And remember, this was a car that I ordered which most people say you wouldn't get a great discount on. But, I took my time and spoke to more than a few dealers(even from out of state) and landed this deal with my local dealer itself!

I think it just depends on how you negotiate. In my case, I had come to this forum before I ordered with a similar question like yours though I already had a quote from one dealer and asked other members if that seems like a good price. Almost all of them said it the best deal available. But, I ended up getting a price lower than what I had originally posted! It just took me a couple of extra weeks before I could get to that price.

PM me if you need more information on the dealers I spoke to. I've to dig into my emails to find that out...

Hope this helps!

$500 over invoice is a fair amount IMO for both dealer and customer. YMMV.

10 to 1 says the dealer was able to take advantage of the $1,260 transmission credit that was available when you did that, which would mean the deal was actually $870 over invoice.

Are you talking about the price difference Automatic/Manual transmission difference? How will it become a credit for the dealer? If infact, I had ordered my car with Auto, then the Invoice itself would have been $39,150.
I don't get it , but curious to know what you are trying to say!

There is an "incentive" right now for the auto. Basically it's not going to cost you $1210 to add on the auto. Last month they had it for both auto and manual.

You know, whatever way you slice it, you're not going to be able to get a bimmer (or any new car for that matter) at a price that is not advantageous to the dealer. If you get it for or below invoice, all the better, but the dealer is still getting incentives and bonuses from the company that you may not know about.

That said, the bottom line for me is to find a price that I'm comfortable with. That involves doing a lot of research on-line (Edmunds.com helps a lot with this), talking to co-workers that have similar cars (I work at a company that has a disproportionately high number of fancy cars in the parking lot), and finding a price that I'm comfortable with. If a dealer matches my price or (gasp!) beats it, I know I'm set, even if someone has managed to get himself a cheaper price by x hundreds of dollars.

I'm not saying my way is the right way or the only way. Plenty of people I know play dealers against each other, go for multiple bids, etc., and they really enjoy the game of negotiation. I'm the exact opposite - I think my time would be better spent doing something else, so I try to do all my research ahead of time and approach a dealer with a price in hand already. If they meet it, we do business. If they don't, I move on. I like to keep my life nice and simple.

Sorry that you feel sad... I dont' think anyone feel they are entitle to anything except human rights and right to negotiate...

I have no idea why BMW wants to lose money and sell cars to us at invoice?!? We just want to pay more so we can keep the resell value up - BMW went ahead and reduce residuals...Hmmm...

could it be just supply and demand that is setting the price?

I wish someone would tell me where you can buy 335i's at invoice in Florida. All I hear is 500 bucks off MSRP and that these cars are in hot demand. When I told the dealer about the prices I see on the forum he said that you're all lying.

Whatever. No one is entitled to anything. People are using the Internet to find the best deals possible and it's a great thing. I hope that the days of dealers screwing people are coming to an end because of forums like this one. For too long, the dealers have had the power to wheel and deal. Now regular people can compare notes and we're now able to enter the dealership with more information and more negotiating power.

The bottom line is that BMW is trying to move more and more cars. This is especially true for the 3 series, which is their bread and butter commodity. BMW has produced a ton of 3 series cars and now they need to move them, hence the lower prices. Again, no one is entitled to anything, it's simple supply and demand.

Get a clue.

Invoice will always make money for any dealership. Even BMW. If there value has gone down it is because they are no longer in the top three for manufacture defects within the first year. There is so much holdback andn incentive programs from BMW to individual dealers that if you pay more than 300 for any car you are getting robbed. Yes some cars are more rare than others but there was still a specific amount of cost to make it. So, even if you get a new M3 for only 1000 over invoice, which you can't, you are getting robbed value wise.

Just assisted a friend with an 335i E90 purchase for $800 below invoice (no dealer fees). She didn't mind the 2009 refresh. So the dealer made about $400 after the automatic rebate.
