Talking Talk me down people, I am having a hard time not buying this

A brand new 250cc street legal dirt bike/dual sport for $1,399 shipped (in pieces) to my door?!?

Two questions...

1) How do I convince the wife this is 100% necessary

2) AM I CRAZY.

Yes, I know it's chinasaki. Yes, I know it's not a known brand. I've owned only brand new Kawasaki's (650, 600), Yamaha's (600), and Husqvarna's (more relevant, TE250), I know what a decent quality bike is like and I am not expecting that out of this.

I think it would be sweet to have for some around-town errands and the occasional trail blast or camping trip! Best part is I wouldn't bother with insurance other than liability, and worst case I pop the motor and get a new one shipped to me for $500. I'm finding it hard to see downsides here LOL.

What happens when you need parts or service?

For $500 to $1000 more you can easily pick up a legitimate, though used, Japanese brand dual sport. I'd take a slightly beat Honda/Kawai/Suzuki over a brand new Chinese knock off that I have to assemble and cant get parts for, any day.

Parts are readily available and stocked in the US lol. And it's a carbed bike, literally the easiest thing to maintain/work on.

Just buy it, who needs their wifes permission any way.....who wears the pants in your family. Nevermind, I know that never flies. How about this, it's cheaper than a 20 year old girlfriend. And the ride will last way longer.

Ah ok. Well if you can get parts and have the skills to work on it then why the hell not. Go for it!

I'm just butt butt because my local moto guzzi dealer closed shop so now every Fing part I need takes 2 to 3 weeks to order from Italy and I'm stuck trying to diagnose a problem with no access to the the dealership scan tool to read codes. Has me cursing the decision not to buy a cheap Japanese bike that I can ride with virtually zero problems.

Oh fuck off you twat.

The man has a wife, a wife! He needs a silly dream to jerk off on. This is epic and that'll keep him so busy the wife won't be having headaches so often.

Yeah, and so do I. I also have 3 motorcycles, 2 of which are currently not running. So here I am with 2 broken bikes and a wife and you busting my balls. You think I need any more headaches? That's why I suggested the guy get a legitimate bike so as to save on future headaches.

Don't you have a home improvement project to go fuck up?

I've been busy hauling logs with a c63 lately. The first and only attempt went so well my ego is bruised, the second attempt went so well the words watch this were used right before lupsie called in a snow plow to make a new road on ice.

I also am teaching how to rebuild a car to my kids with a Volkswagen and I don't know shit about any of it. I also found 11 nails and bolts from my aunt's tyres and wondered for almost a day how she sliced her tyre with a flying axe head while coming to take me to the er.

Just tell that all to your wife the next time she thinks she married the most horrible person in the world. You got nuthin on me, Dettie!

Indeed. It's on a car forum somewhere on the Internet. Post after post from your husband about what a pain in the ass you are. Ha!

They prolly get better stories than you all.

Scratch that. They for sure get better stories than you all get.

Edit: but not a car forum. at times he looks as bikes and wishes he could buy one again but he can't. He is married to a crazy bitch and he seems to like me being alive.

Matt, You ever owned a bike? If yes, do all your own maintenance? No, really, I mean /ALL/ of it...

You don't seem shy about the arrival as a kit part, which is encouraging, but seriously, if you've not spent serious time wrenching on a bike I dunno that I'd recommend one of these. Like a BMW, if you need to have a shop do work it ain't worth it.

Compare & contrast with what's available locally- both at dealers and privately- you may find a much better deal. I'd snatch up an old KDX 200 in a heartbeat, possibly the most fun thing I've ever dodged a tree with. They got the math just right on those...

Opinion of somebody who spent 25 years riding dirt bikes in the woods going way way to damn fast. For me it was an RM250 custom built forest rocket for most of that time. If it's on two wheels and you can send it in the trees I can rip it to every nut & bolt and put it back together again.

I've owned a few, new and old, street and dirt, carb & FI/2stroke & 4stroke, and done most of the work myself. It's also a hobby item so I'm not really worried about the inevitable down-time for repairs. The idea of it coming as a bag o' parts is exciting to me, knowing that I'll be the one to assemble and get everything just right! You're right about shopping around though, there could be a hidden gem nearby that I'm overlooking

Sweet- sounds like you're in need of a bike to wrench on

I've always said you never really own it till you've torn it apart and put it back together again! This way you're just getting to it right away

For most folks I'd say that's totally right. YOU, on the other hand, after that warranty miracle-minor, are so far wacked out on your karma I suspect there's nothing within a thousand miles that is a good deal!!

Dual Sport bikes are pretty easy to get street legel, even if they arent 100%. The requirements aren't that bad in most areas.

That being said, I'm going to echo what someone else stated. Just get a good quality brand name bike, and not a cheap Chinese version.

Parts may be available now, but they will not always be.

A bit of background, I use to race both bikes and ATV's for a number of years, and owned a couple Chinese made pitbikes that I spent quite a bit of money on. (they were $1000+ each, from a well known Chinese brand name)

Long story short, The piston rod broke in one of them, and I needed to order a replacement rod, plus a head and piston. The parts were nowhere to be found. I ended up swapping the entire motor out because of this, to a Yamaha.

Just spend a bit more and buy a used one from a well know Japanese brand. I use to have a Suzuki DRZ-400 that was just awesome. The engine is shared with a number of other ATV's/bikes, so parts are super available and its stupid easy to work on.

My 2 cents.
