I know BMW warranties clutches, but after the first replacement within warranty, you're on your own.

I bought a 97 Civic coupe with 150,000+ miles on it for $2,500. And once I got my Bimmer, I sold it for $3,000.

buy a beater to learn on...
M3 is not a good car to learn how to drive manual on... The clutch is race oriented and will be firmer then most... Buy a honda civic or something in that class to learn on. |

The e90/e92 clutch isn't too bad actually. I didn't find it that hard to modulate properly and the clutch pedal is light. The engagement point is just a little higher on it than I'm used to, but otherwise was pretty easy to drive. I would say that the OP can definitely learn on his new car as long as he's got a good teacher next to him. It won't really mess up the clutch as long as he's not in a "learning period" and grinding that clutch for weeks.

How hard could it be...just learn on your M3 as you go. I've never driven a manual before and I can almost gurantee I would have no problem driving one.
Depress clutch, put it in 1st, gas, depress clutch, put it in 2nd, gas. My next car is a manual BTW..for sure. |

same applys to driving manual. its less about being able to do it and more about being able to do it correctly without sacrificing the clutch or the flow of driving while goign from one gear to another |

If you want to learn I may be able to meet next week on Wedensday. We might be able to work something out. I have taught my wife and a few other people (including a customer who bought a new M roadster last year) to drive stick. Let meknow and if this possible I may be able to help you out.

There's an old saying about driving stick: It takes a minute to learn, and a lifetime to master. I'll teach you the basics in your car no problem. All I ask in return is for a steak salad and some patron at the Franklin steak house.
