Varadero, Cuba
I'm heading down to Varadero with a few friends in approximately 3 weeks. I'm pretty stoked about the trip. I was just wondering if anyone has ever been. How is it there? From what I've heard so far it's pretty awesome.
Just looking for a bit of insight. I'll be staying in the Oasis 1920 BTW. Matt |

I'm guessing that seeing as how most of this message board is Americans, you are going to get limited responses. From everything I've heard, its amazing. Plus, no Americans. Just Kidding about that last part

I've been there a cpl times. The last time was with a buddy. What are you looking to do?
I forgot the names of the clubs, but I remember visiting one that was better then the rest, on my last night there. The others that we went to weren't too exciting. Im sure you can get laid, how hot the girls will be depends on who will be there. If all else fails, later at night there are hookers walking the streets. Didn't stay at your hotel, but at ours - the food was just alright, alcohol was a part of the all-inclusive so that wasn't a problem. I've been to better beaches and better party locations, but Varadero is certainly one of the cheapest. Have low expectations, get drunk and get laid and you'll have a good time. |

Never been to Varadero, but my wife and I went to Cayo Coco, Cuba.
The beaches are absolutely beautiful. Clear, blue water, with soft, white, sandy beaches. They have people go out there early every morning to basically rake all the beaches so that they look naturally clean (but obviously they're not). We went snorkelling and boating and relaxed around the resort. The food is only okay, but there's definitely lots of it. You don't go to Cuba for the food anyways. And of course there's plenty of free alcohol at the resort. We didn't go clubbing or into the city since that's not really our thing. We went mainly for the beach and water. Cuba is probably the best value for that. Oh, and make sure you buy a couple of boxes of Cuban cigars. They're about 1/4 to 1/3 of the price over there. Even if you don't smoke 'em, give them as gifts or sell them to offset the cost of your trip. Totally worth it. Make sure you bring a bunch of trinkets, toys, etc. for the locals and hotel workers. They really have very little, and they really appreciate it when you bring stuff for them. Even if it's clothes that you don't wear anymore, old toys that your kids don't use, etc. Some people will make a trip to the dollar store before they leave and just buy a bunch of things in there to give away in place of or in combination with your tips. And yes, there are no Americans there. Just Canadians and a bunch of Brits. I'm not saying that's a good thing..... |

We were there in January. The beaches are great and the people are friendly. The food isn't good. Definitely take a trip to Havana. I can't comment on the night life in Varadero as we were with a baby. If you happen to have any of those small shampoo bottles or soap from hotels, etc. take them with you. Big shortage of that kind of stuff in Cuba and it will be appreciated.

Pretty cool place, nothing like Cancun but its really a good place to get away! Beaches are 5 star and so are the local beeches! Make sure to grab some cigars, Cohiba's are my favs. Don't buy from beach bums as you might get some stuffed with sand. Grabbing a scooter is cool driving around town, but be safe when doing so.
