Unplugged wire under hood of my 330i
Anyone know what this wire is for? I found it unplugged under my hood and see no where to plug it in. It also had this clip attached.

thank you. I put a rubber cap over it just now so i guess i should take that off. I was thinking maybe it was for an accessory I did not have on my car. Thanks for the input.

The AC sensor is on the other side of the car and is an L-shaped object. OP is looking at the driver's side by the airbox. I don't have anything hanging around there, that I can tell.

That does indeed look similar, but not competely like, my temp sensor under hood. It usually resides in on the passenger side. But I also believe that the wire actually originates from the drivers side, so perhaps that's why it runs so far down.
Mine looks a litte different on the sensor side (mine just has more blue round circle areas) and also has a right angle to the plug area, but that could just be the revisions over the years. I think the earlier models, and even the E46 models, had something more linear but with a cone attachment to the front. Have you had any work done that required removing your cowl completely? And I guess part of the obvious question is, do you have a sensor currently mounted on the passenger side of the cowl (driver's side should have the hood sensor). The wire clip a few inches down is similar to how the temp sensor wiring looks like (but to be fair, those clips are everywhere in the wiring system). |

See figure 3. If your car had a stock alarm (hood trigger), you would have another "sensor" on the opposite side. |

Thanks guys for the feedback. The only work done on my engine besides plugs and a coil was last year my local BMW dealer replaced all the HVA's or lifters under a goodwill repair for lifter tick; which still comes back sometimes but not near as much. It is actually going into the dealer next week for the blower motor recall so I am going to ask a tech there. thanks again

Looks to be for some option your car didn't come with. It came with the male end of the connector plugged in with wire seals filling the cavities. BMW does that sometimes for unused connections.
I'm not familiar enough the e9x to say what option it might be for. Edit: On the other hand, it looks like that wire was punched through that grommet instead of traveling with the main bundle. Maybe remnants of a mod from the previous owner if you're not the original? |

Does that look like it? It's the only thing usually found in that area. RHD models would have the hood open sensor and AUC (air quality) sensor on alternate sides. |
