Which pump gas? Custom Tune
Hi, I'm wondering what other people have gone with when getting a custom tune in Canada?
I have the option of 91 or 93 octane, and I'm getting conflicting opinions. Can't decide. How much more power will the 93 give me? Is it really noticeable? I have 335is FBO, N54, stock inlets. |

I was reading these threads and they threw me off. It seems that there's 33 whp difference on the dyno between 91 and 93. https://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39837 https://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40013 |

I went with 91, although I running an OTS tune. While I have plenty of 94 around me, and you can almost always find it in the city, I didn't want to risk being away from the city and not being able to find 94.

Did you dyno your car? I'll be happy with 390whp, but that might be a stretch on 91. |

I've never had this car on a dyno, so not sure what I'm making. A friend is running a custom 94 tune on his fbo N54 and he made 397hp 442 tq during his tuning session.

Yes this can be a issue if your needing to run 94, but I carry a can of Boostane Octane Booster, for those "Oh $h!t" moments.

both 91 and 93 in canada are pretty shit... i doubt you will see any difference between them... there is really no reason to use cheaper gas in your BMW. thats what civics are for, use the best gas there is, period.
Its been tested that canadian chev 94 is worse than Us 92 oct. If you want power go for E85 and tune for that.. when you dont have E85 you can just go back to your gas pump tune and not worry. |

The refinery only supplies 87 and 91, the 89 is a blend of 87 and 91 and petrol 94 is a blend of 91 and ethanol. Fuel at Costco, CDN tire and Shell to get 0% ethanol fuel, use octane booster if you need.
You will not damage the engine if you tune it to 94, the car is way too smart it will adjust the timing to accommodate whatever fuel you put in (other than diesel). |

I can get barrels of e85 or e98 in Alberta. I have seen pails of e85 on kijiji in ontario.
I usually grab a barrel of e98 a year. 5L per tank, with husky 94 base fuel allows me to run JB4 race map 7, and race bef with no timing pulls. |
