For you 6MT guys...potential pot of gold.
I was at the dealer to get some work done on my car. While I was checking out the 5.0 V8 X6 on the showroom floor, the Sales Manager who I know relatively well (bought 3 cars from him in the 8 months) asked me if I would be willing to part with my 6MT coupe for retail price plus $3,500. He sold me the car and knew how it was optioned. He claimed that he could not locate a new 6MT coupe optioned like my car. The buyer was willing to go with a used coupe if it was in decent shape. We spoke a bit about the scarcity of the 6MT cars, apparently there is a significant shortage. I was tempted and I humored his bid and countered "how about a clean trade for a 6AT coupe?", he responded that if I was serious we can discuss it. Wow.

yea, 6MT cars are hard to find with alotta options on them, since they are mostly ordered fresh out of the factory by buyers, whereas AT's are mostly dealer-ordered

I just wonder if the same goes for the 6MT sedans.
I'll bet they're scarce, but I don't know if they're as much in need.

That ride looks and drives like a beast. I've never seen a 6MT Sedan locally, but I have seen a specially-ordered manual M5.

good info, but you would have to pry my 335 keys from my kung fu grip to get the car away from me.

I can believe it. If people want a stick than it is hard to find. There was only 1 on the lot where I went. They brought mine in from Valencia, CA. I have Premium, Comfort Access, Sports package and Navigation. The only thing I wish I got was the heated seats. However, it is not really necessary for more than two months here.

keep in mind this is only if there is a person in your area willing to pay the premium for the used vehicle...they could simply wait the 2 months and get an 09...

From the conversations I've had with used car managers, at least in the bay area, they are wanting to pay $35kish for my 08 with 6k miles. It's a 6MT. I can probably get $1-2k more out of them, but that's still way less than I'd want to sell my car for. Doesn't sound like they are in as much demand.

Actually, I've been seeing a lot of women driving new sedans lately. I knew this before I purchased the car but I needed the 4 doors for my daughter and I just had to have the manual.

not bad according to Kelly Blue Book prices in my area, NJ....
MSRP Used = $45,530 + $3,500 = $49,030 Selling Privately = $41,275 + $3500 = $44,775. Trade in = $37,150 + $3,500 = $40,650 |

I got ready to buy my car about 6 weeks ago. I wanted a 6MT 335i sedan with sat nav/iDrive, sat radio, sport package and comfort access. There were two 335 6MT sedans around my area (Atlanta), but both were practically optionless. I had a dealer do a search and there were only two cars in the US, excluding the west coast, that were 6MT sedans with the options, and they both had a few extra I didn't really need. One in North Carolina, one in Texas.
So I went to North Carolina and drove home in my new 335i sedan, just like I wanted it Yes, 6MT cars with some options are quite rare right now. |
