New vanos solenoids

Hi guys,

I bought new vanos solenoids for my N46 few days ago because of occasionally vanos problems. After installing the new solenoids and starting the engine I had very rough idle at 400-600 RPM and multiple engine errors in vanos timing. After replacing back the old ones engine runs normal. Solenoids are 100% right for my engine. Any idea how to solve it? Shall I reset/change anything in INPA/ISTA?

Thanks
Jan

Are they oem bmw solenoids? It's weird, but solenoids are something that you should get legit bmw, or at least from the OE manufacturer. I went through this with chinese wastegate solenoids from ebay, which performed like garbage brand new. I don't know who the OEM is for the ones in your engine, but I'd look long and hard into getting some legit ones, assuming the new ones you bought are not OEM. Also, did you reset adaptations?

I did not reset adaptation, shall I try it? Can I do it without inpa or by inpa? I bought them on Ebay from Czech manufacturer (I'm also from Czech rep.) https://www.ebay.com/itm/2x-Steuerve...72.m2749.l2649

Part number is correct, seller offered me returning the money if it won't work.
Thanks

Did you scan for codes after installing your new solenoids? I replaced mine this week (N54). After installation I scanned for codes and I had limp mode (3100) show up, so I reset the codes before starting and the car fired up nice and smoothly. I used Dorman solenoids.

Sometimes they just go. Especially, if you're over 100,000 miles. You can clean them with brake cleaner and then blow them out with an air hose & swap positions. If no go, then it's time to pony up $200 plus dollars.

I'd get them at FCP Euro. You get a lifetime warranty on them for as long as you own the car.

I had this problem with NEW solenoids. Old threw me p0012 approx twice a month. I will try to reinstall them today and reset adaptation with INPA.

Could be your camshaft sensors?

Hi guys,

I tried to reset adapatation via inpa but it threw me some error. Anyway I found that the new solenoid has too big sealing and they did not fully fit in the hole. After changing the sealing it works pretty good now. I have noticed some vanos rattle after instalation, not so loudly as in YouTube videos but still. Is it normal? Today the sound was sweet.

I don't have any vanos rattle. When I ordered Dormans I didn't notice they came with seals, so I ordered a set from a different manufacturer. When installing the solenoids I noticed the seals on the Dorman were ill fitting, so I swapped them.

I replaced both solenoids on my N54 several years ago with ones I bought from oembimmerparts.com for ~$60 each. One failed after about a year, and was replaced at no cost. Both have been fine since.

bmw e93 N54 335i replace the vanos

My car had 2A87 and 3100 codes when I was driving at high speed before. I found some information and thought it was the exhaust solenoid valve. I ordered aftermarket vanos online and replaced the old vanos. But when I drove again, the car started to shake after I stepped on the accelerator and shifted gears. It felt like the car was jumping back and forth. I really want to know what the reason is. I checked the vanos installation and made sure it was installed properly. Does anyone have this experience? Hope to get help
