Engine Oil pressure too low warning

Hi,

Does anyone know what may possibly be causing this error to appear on the BMW iDrive?:

Quote:

Engine oil pressure too low. Engine damage possible. Stop engine. It is not possible to to continue your journey; contact the nearest BMW Service.

The vehicle was taken to the local garage and they could not find any fault codes. It appears that it is an intermittent issue and the error has appeared again today,

The car appears to drive fine and engine sounds normal. Engine oil level is good and the vehicle is regularly serviced by BMW.

Any pointers as to what the issue may be would be much appreciate.

Did you ever have a serpentine belt shred or work it’s way off the pulleys?

could be as simple as a failing oil pressure switch.

What you need to do is put a mechanical gauge on the engine and determine if it really has a low oil pressure issue, or if it's a sensor that's failing.

continuing to drive it with low oil pressure will grenade the motor.
