Need some help!

While sitting at a traffic light in my car, all of the sudden it sounded like crazy valve train noise started and followed RPMs, never quit, louder with revs, loss of power was extremely obvious.

It sounds like a drummer on my valve cover and never quits like most of the other posts...warm, cold, whatever...its singing a bad song.

I had just come off the interstate and was sitting at a light...had been moving strong until it happened.

Had local BMW mechanic look and says he looked into the cylinders etc and cannot "see" an obvious problem...claims he had it on a rack and thinks its from the bottom??

Anyone had something like this that is constantly metal tapping loud with RPM?

Thanks for anything...2009 335i with the later version engine setup through 11 and a manual shift.

Anyone? My local BMW mechanic said they don't open them up because it's typically cheaper to buy a salvage engine...if I can figure out if it's in the valves or similar, I'd make a go at fixing...
The tapping is constant, loud and moves faster/louder directly with throttle.

I presume you've ruled out the turbochargers? I'd think it'd be pretty straightforward to narrow down the location of the noise with a mechanic's stethoscope, especially with a lift.

Might try the N54 Section with your question.
