Which breathing apparatus for my little piggy?

I have recently sold my SSTT and will be investing in a V3 or JB3 in the coming month.

With the SSTT I just ran with a BMC drop in filter. However, I know that I will need to do something else to get the most out of either the Procede or Juice Box piggies.

I intend to either use a K&N dual cone setup or a Helene drop in with RPI scoops.

Any thoughts out there about which would be the best solution. In order of importance, I am looking or the following from my setup:

- Reliability
- Stock apprearance or quick/easy to bring back to stock
- Max power (biggest bang for my buck - or pound sterling to be more precise )
- Least expensive

Thoughts please . . . . .

I recently took the same root. Coming from SSTT for more then 15k and BMC panel filter to a V3 with Spectre Dual Cones. All I can say that the Dual Cones are well worth it with a powerful tune. The change is imidiate from the stock air box, as well as imroved throttle responce. And of course the SOUND! Do it, you won't regret.

I see your point, but for me, it doesn't work.
I do agree that the stock air box is extremely restrictive, but for me, it's working great.

The pros of having the scoops with the Helene Perfromance filter:

-You have the engine compartment looking stock for our lovely BMW technicians. (We love them sooo much )
-You are sucking in cold air from outside the car instead of hot air from the engine.
-You don't have to worry about the filters slipping off the piping (like some have mentioned)
-You don't have to clean the panel filter as much as the cone filters since the air and dirt isn't blowing directly on the panel filter.

On turbo cars sucking in hot air is not an issue because when the air is compressed by the turbos the air is heated

You want to get as much air as possible so I would say RPI scoops with some dual cones

I understand your point as well. I dont think the OP can go wrong either way....

I used to believe this but I've had a hard time believing this lately.
Colder air entering the vehicle provides better results-period!
This is why a car dyno'd on a cooler day provides better results than a car on a hotter day.
If the temp of air entering the car didn't matter then both days should yield the same results.

Temperature relates to density, density is what relates to more power. However, the hot air is cooled after induction by our intercooler, if you want colder air, get a air to water intercooler.

Mr.5, not sure if this was asked already or posted in seperate thread....but I thought you were going to dyno with the HP filter + scoops? if you did, what did your testing conclude power wise? I am sure there was a good bit of difference with or without the scoops.

also, do we still have a legit vendor for the scoops? sorry for the

Eugen said that he was going to mail me his ITG filter and he never did.
I've sent him numerous PMs, and he hasn't come through for me.
He was the one that initially contacted me, so I took him up on it.

Eugen, what else do I need to do for you teo send the filter my way?

The difference in power on cold days is because of the increased efficiency of the intercooler, not necessarily lower intake temps

lower intake into the engine helps. I think the argument has always been that with a less restrictive intake (ie dual cones), the turbos don't heat the air up as much (since the incoming air will have a higher pressure due to less restrictions). The turbos don't have to work as hard, so even though they are sucking in higher temp air from the engine bay vs. outside air, by the time that air gets to the intercooler, it is the same or lower temp.

If the air that gets to the intercooler is hotter with dual cones than stock airbox, then I agree with you completely.

let us know if Eugen comes through so you can dyno and provide some test results for us....I am thinking this is the exact route I will take with my intake unless something better than stock comes along by end of year (doubt it!)...

I like the idea of keeping the stock airbox intact, I also wash the engine bay so covering up filters and such is not an option for me....better flowing filter like HP + scoops sounds like the way to go IMO - less headaches all around.
