Engine Malfuction

A week ago, after pushing the car at some high speed, I received a message on my dashboard:

"Engine Malfunction
Engine operating at reduced output. Possible to continue. Drive with caution. Have the system checked by the nearest BMW center."

Along with this message came no CEL at all, but I did pull off some DME Codes:

29A3 - Outside temperature sensor, plausibility: Ambien temperature less than model temperature

29E4 - Charge air temperature, plausibility: Temperature too high.

2C58 - Charging pressure control: Switch-off as consequence.

Shadow codes:
2904 - Charge-air temperature sensor: Multiple fault.

299E - Outside temperature sensor, multiple fault: Electrical and plausibility.

29E7 - Charge-air temperature sensor: Mutliple fault.


Now, today, after changing my DV, since it was surging, I tested the car and didn't push it that much. I also had that message along some DME codes. Still no CEL.

29E4 (See above)

2C58 (See above)

Shadow codes:
2904 (See above)

2908 - Charge-air temperature sensor: Multiple fault.

29E7 - (See above)

2DD0 - Valvetronic system: Control deviation warning threshold exceeded.

I wasn't logging while that happened, but I started logging 1 min after (With reduced power). IAT was 43 Celcius.



Is my map sensor trolling me and dying or is it another bigger issue? I have a 7" FMIC and boost seems well, so I don't think it comes from there.
I will be logging the car for more input.

Any updates? I’m curious to how you’re going about diagnosing the issues just bc I like to learn.

So I still didn't manage to find the exact culprit yet but I have an idea.

I started by logging some pulls and making sure that my boost pressure was still good. That way I confirmed I don't have a leak in my FMIC.

Next thing was I checked my FMIC's fin pack to be sure that there are no major damages that would affect cooling. As expected, everything looked perfectky fine on that end.

This then brings me to two remaining options.

1) The sensor went bad

2) The FMIC got heat soaked in the situations where the errors occured.

Recently a lot of our main streets got flooded and had to be closed. This created a lot of traffic and with ambiant air getting hotter, I quickly realised that IATs could rise a lot, but not really to a point where it is consideres harmful. The maximum I reached after doing 3 pulls and being in traffic was 60 Celcius which really isn't catastrophic at all.

So for the moment, all I can do is I keep on monitoring and logging the car to see if there arw any irregulars reasing due to a bad sensor at some point.

Note that this error goes away right after that you start the car back up. I also checked for the codes and they vanished for the moment.
