What kind of razor do you use?

I have the schlick Hydro 5 and I feel like the heads wear out so fast. I shave every day and I replace the heads every 1-2 weeks, would like to do it a lot sooner though. My Gillet is even worse, any other good razors out there?

They are the crack dealers of the manufacturing world. I was using the Hydro 5 and recently went back to the Mach 3 or whatever which uses blades that cost 1/4th of the Hydro's. I can change them ever 5 days and my shave always looks good. I hate the game they've forced us into.

Good luck with your search.

what do you mean "...would like to do it a lot sooner though." ?

one to two weeks is a good run. I just started using the BIC Flex 4 Sensitive. Three razors for under six-dollars. Should give it a try.

If I really want close I use a safety razor, but just occasionally.

Being retired and "jobless" , I shave about once a week, unless I'm going somewhere. When I shave I cut it down with a Norelco Multi-groom and then shave with a Gillette Sensor Excel. Works great for me.

I use Dollar Shave Club. I've tried all brands and surprisingly I don't get razor burn at all anymore. My wife even switched. I get the 4 blade model I believe, not the highest or lowest model. I've found that the more blades a razor has the more it gives me burn.

I made the move to a double edge safety razor a few years ago. Start off with a $15-20 handle, 100 blades for $10.

I do recommend going for a shaving brush and upgrading your shave soap as well if going that route, it does take a little bit more care and concentration shaving with a double edge as you only have one blade but it SHOULD save you money in the long run if you don't get lost in the different soaps and aftershaves.

The razor starts to pull and tug pretty bad before I change it, Ideally I'd change it before that

Do you happen to shave against the grain ?

I only shave with the grain, and not much pressure. But if you shave against the grain, it's true that these razors don't even last a week.

I shave with the grain, against the grain is really hard on my skin and the razor. I've done that before though, gets a really close shave but my razor heads last 2 days and they're shot.

I use Harry's, another internet company. Blades seem to last longer than any others I have tried. I tend to get other things when I reorder blades from then like their soap and aftershave. Prices are good.

I've seen a lot or advertising for this, I'm kinda browsing the site but it's not showing specific details. How much is a 4 pack set of razors?

DE safety razor for about a decade. Never going back to multi blades. If I drank coffee before I showered, I'd probably try a straight razor.

Braun Series 7 electric. Takes about a month to get used to and then there’s no turning back.

Use beard trimmer with no guard never shave. Or hardly ever saves money to blow elsewhere. Also havent had haircut in 20 years, do my own

DE safety razor with a badger brush, beard oil, and a good rich shave cream. Trim my head with a Wahl clipper no need for the barber.

Having got sick of cartridge prices and how fast they dull, I switched to a double edge (DE) razor 5 years ago and mostly haven't looked back. I use a cartridge razor off Amazon when I am TDY or in a real hurry and don't want to spare the 5-ish minutes it takes me to shave using the DE razor. I STILL haven't made it through the 100 razors that came w/ the original sampler pack I bought Jan 2014 and the only thing I've bought since then is different shaving creams. I still have the same handle, brush, bowl, etc... and they're in excellent condition. Each bowl last a very long time (greater part of several months).

The shave w/ a DE is smoother and lasts longer than any cartridge razor I've used (Gillette Mach 3, Harry's, Dorko Pace 3). I use the latter is my fallback cartridge razor. $15 on Amazon for a plastic handle + 10 cartridges (that last longer than Gillette's ever did). The 3-bladed Pace 3 doesn't clog the way the 4 blade razors did (that's why I stopped using Harry's).

Yes, for DE, there is an initial starting cost but the is price flexibility. For example, you could only buy the razor handle and some blades but normal shaving cream/gel. Or also get a brush but use the tub/bowl that some shave creams/soaps come in.

$28 - Edwin Jagger handle (Amazon)
$20 - 100 blade sampler pack from multiple brands (Amazon)
$35 - Parker shave brush (Amazon)
$15 - Razor/Brush stand (Amazon)
$17 - Taylor of Old Bond Street shaving cream (Amazon)

Total = $115
Annualized over 5 years = $23/yr

I also picked up a Dover shavette but haven't used that as much due to time learning technique for using a straight razor. A shavette has the body of a straight razor but uses replaceable razors; no stropping.

Harry’s. I buy them at Target usually instead of online.

I'm a DE razor user as well. I spent like 10 bucks for 100 replacement blades. I normally just shave with just water but if I'm feelin fancy, I'll bust out the badger hair brush and shave cream.

started out with mach 3s, then made the move to dollar shave club (definitely inferior, but you get what you pay for )

recently got a safety razor and while i like the weighted handle i don't get the point? the shave is exactly the same
