BMW Assist - anyone actually use it?

Hopefully picking up my new 330xi in the next couple of days. I know that I get assist for free the first year but I still need to sign up, give them a credit card and then REMEMBER to cancel since it automatically renews according to the assist site.
The question is does any actually use it? Obviously if you are in a serious accident and can't call for help and it works (airbags go off, car didn't roll over on antenna) it is worth every penny. But other than that? There is no way, from what I can read, it is worth $20 a month after the first year - maybe $1 a month. Not interested in them letting me know when my car needs service etc.
SO, does anyone use it? Will anyone renew it?
Thanks for your help.

I personally would have no use in it...but like I said...personally, keep us updated when you get your car

The dealership took my credit card info but said that it would not automatically renew. Plus I've never used it and find no use for it.

I did NOT give a credit card number to my dealer and told them I didn't want it, but I seem to have it anyway. My SA called me recently and said that my car emailed them because it is due for inspection but that hardly seems worth much since I can look at the stupid sticker myself.

I never gave my dealer any credit card info and mines still working. I've used it twice. Once to make sure it was working, and another time cause I was bored in bumber to bumber traffic.

my dealer also said that it does not automatically renew...never used it though, but would be worth it if somebody steals the car (by towing it) and they recover it. I live in Chicago, so I cannot dismiss that from happening.

Hmm...my dealer said that it DOES automatically renew. That's why they took my credit card info. They also said that I'd get something in the mail in a year when it's time to renew, so all I'd have to do is call an 800 number to cancel. You guys might want to check with your dealer about it renewing automatically.

To answer the OP's question, no I haven't used it for anything. If it's stolen, then I guess it's nice to be able track it. But I don't really need someone else to make dinner reservations for me.

Thanks - about what I expected - and the service where you can make dinner reservations is an additional charge also. Based on some of the stuff that I read, even if you don't activate it at delivery time some of it works for 30 or 60 days or some period of time. On my wife's 2005 - we didn't activate and after a few months a red light came on the rear view mirror (very small) and acording to the manual it means the built in phone is disconnected, my wife doesn't notice it drives me crazy when I see it. Well I have 2 days to decide.

Just to chime in, my dealer also told me (just about 10 days ago at delivery) that it does NOT automatically renew.

I wonder if anyone has a definite answer on this...

I haven't used it yet but you never when you need it. You never know when you will get in an accident or a have a engine failure, etc

BMW "Assist"

I called BMW Assist when my oil sensor went on and stayed on even after I put in a quart of oil. (Note that the sensor was found to be defective at the dealer two days later.)

Call went like this:
Hi, I am driving on Interstate 65, oil sensor went off, added oil but it did not go off.
BMW: Are you in a safe place?
I said I am driving on Interstate 65 and.....
BMW: Are you broken down?
I said.....
BMW: Sorry, we cannot help you, please read the manual.

The manual is useless, already read it, crossed my fingers and made it home at 50 mph after putting a 2nd quart in.

Based on limited experience, it may not be worthwhile to renew.
