basically, take apart the speedo, remove the stock leds and replace them with new ones. I've seen this being done on many E46s (some nice, some rice). I would love to have JUST the speedo in white (M style) to keep things clean. I havent seen anything done on an E9x, so if anyone has the balls...

If i were you i'd leave the lights orange. There's a reason why bmw uses orange dash lights. It's supposed to be best for your eyes at night. The local police department where I live have orange lights for their onboard laptops as well for night use. It's what makes a bmw... a bmw. That's what I think at least

I can't imagine what you'll have to take apart just to do that, but interesting!

I've seen a DIY (sorta) for this mod on an RHD E46; maybe it was on E46fanatics. You take apart all your electronics, desolder the stock LEDs and replace them with you color of choice. There are no "bulbs" involved.

Indeed. The pics I saw of the modded E46 looked very Audi-ish. eerie.

I would love to get this done too as well. It's just LED you have to replace, either by the bulb or by welding another LED to it. I haven't seend any article of anyone removing the dashboard and checking how thoes circuit works.

That is alot of work if you want it to look right. I definitely think just making the rings around the speed gauge red would be nice.

It's one of those things where if you need a DIY, you're probably not qualified to do it.
