What goals do you have in your life?
Hi All,
How is everyone looking at their life? are you following the standard lifestyle: go to college, get your degree, get a 9-5 job, start a family, buy a house, car etc.. and invest in 401k and retire at 70? or are you investing in passive generating assets vs liabilities so you can be financially free and enjoy your life sooner then at 70? |

it depends..
sometimes just surviving a period of time, sometimes locked on making good money, sometimes living like nothing to lose, sometimes taking big risks in sequence.. sometimes just pretending to be alive.. but above all trying to be open all the time for big changes and always keeping some courage inside to do out of common things when everyone chickens.. life is short.. |

And if you're a female with money, get a prenup and stop dreamingat30fps in his tracks. EDIT: I guess what I meant to say was you don't have to follow the script. Do what makes you happy but plan for the future, don't piss it all away on stupid stuff when you're young. The years go way too fast.

Pffft - My ex got the house and everything in it, half my 401K, a chunk of change and a few vital organs.... It took a while to recover but all is well once again.

My divorce was a cakewalk. $300 to a paralegal for the papers, 1/2 our savings account which amounted to $600, and agreeing to take on all our credit card debt which amounted to about $1,000. In turn she wanted no alimony, she walked from the house we just bought, she left my 401k alone. I got a roomate for $400 a month and was out of debt and moved on in about 2 months. |

An education, a good job and retirement are all grand. At this point in life, self respect, peace of mind, enlightenment and being respectful/mindful of those around you (that deserve it) seems to be far more rewarding.
A few years ago I was more concerned about building an empire. These days a healthy body and the ability to sleep peacefully at night are far more important to me than wealth. |

That may be true for your average Joe Schmo, but this is OT. It's well known throughout the interwebz that only studs with 12" cocks roam these lands. We don't need money or power to get bitches. The amount of bitches we turn away would boggle the mind of most men.

But for realz
I was doing the work, house, save money etc thing. I was stuck on that treadmill. All with the hopes that I would be happy at some point in the future if I did all this stuff. In the meantime I was miserable and hated my jobs so I bought crap I didn't need for that momentary shot of dopamine. Then my father died. I've never had anyone that close to me die except for my uncle back when I was still in college. Although I had been wanting a change for a while I think that was the trigger. He was super excited to retire and although he had his own business he kept putting it off to save some more money. Never got to retire, same with my uncle. I'm not making the same mistake. A few months later I got laid off. Instead of finding another job I focused on my side business I had started a few years back and focused on growing my freelance business. For maybe like 6 months I lived off that business and supplemented it with my savings. Now I work my businesses full time and focus on work that will generate the most $$ for the least amount of time. Since I can run my business from anywhere we travel around the country in our rv for around 6 months out of the year. Wether the fact that I was focused on my business fulltime or just luck. I actually make more now than I ever did at any previous job I've had and I work a fraction of the time I use to. That being said I try to save as much as I can now that the money is coming in. I also try to make moves that will hopefully put me in a good position were the shit to hit the fan, because I don't think I could ever go back to the 9-5 grind. I feel like I have been in a daze for the past 15 years and finally woke up 4 years ago. All that being said do what makes YOU happy. I know people who do enjoy their careers and get a lot of fulfillment from moving up in the company and stuff like that. Or from their family, having kids etc. Do what makes you happy and do it now, stop putting it off, even if it's hookers and blow. |

Old is a state of mind. I'm 71 and I enjoy my life. I was barely into my second career at 50.
