Vishnu, maps, dynos ... WTF?

This guy in NM wants to sell his 335i coupe but he has installed Vishnu Stage one and CAT exhaust. Does this stuff hurt the car? I mean, if the car is designed and sold a certain way and then the owner uses 100 octane, modifies the intakes and exhausts and screws with the computer ... sure he now gets 380 or 414 HP but is this really good for the engine?? He told me you can remove the VIshnu thing a ma bob so the service dept won't find it. Will this thing void the warranty? Any advise. Should I steer clear of this car?

Hello, and let me introduce you to the : button for future reference.

In terms of the Vishnu voiding warranty, YES IT WILL
You will lose all powertrain warranty if they detect the mod in your car or any links that may show you had the mod in the past.

Also, the car is designed to perform at a certain rate, but others will argue it can't hurt the car since Vishnu is "safe" but IMHO running a car at almost double the PSI is damaging to the turbos in the long run.....but how would I know right? I only read almost every post about the ECU tunes....

I would rather go and find another vehicle without any mods...just for a peace of mind...

Also, what's your budget? If you're looking for a new E9x why not wait for the 2009 models? they have updated I-drive/maps/interface coming....no word on the DCT though...

I think you will find the consensus to be stay away from modded cars unless you planned on doing that anyways thus can save some time and money. Modding turbo cars, while gains are easy to get, will of course reduce reliability of the car. Not necessarily a bad thing, just depends on what you personally are looking for.

There's a chance his warranty is already been voided, it would explain why he's selling the car privately to someone in New Orleans from New Mexico (unless "NM" was a typo?).

I usually avoid buying a previously modded car (there are exceptions if the car is low production). They tend to get driven hard. Not that other people don't drive a non-modded car hard, but you can find those that really take care of it and haven't modded it. Have your cake and eat it too.

More power = more wear. Regardless of whether it was built for it or not.

Its a BETA version of my blackbox I developed 3 months ago.

Stay tuned bro.

It will be the greatest bang for the buck available by a landslide, and produces the same amount of power of a JB2H or more.

Isn't V3 and JB3 the industry standard now? JB2H is a little old.....

Depends how you look at it. 15 PSI on the stock turbo's is not ideal by any means for the cars longevity and is actually near the choke line in regards to the compressor maps for our turbo's.

Industry standard? Well the JB3 costs about 3x as much as my box does if not more.

The V3 is $1400.

I don't think you can beat 50+HP for $199. MSD81 +29.2 and later diagnostic invisibility and full system stability. Lifetime warranty on the unit itself, 24/7 email and phone tech support and an zero cost upgrade policy. Experience wins in the long run

Sorry for the threadjack. Anyone can PM me if they like.

Not too bad at all especially for 199. I am glad you shared this information because I dont think many of us would have ever known.

I look forward to hearing more about this and seeing some third party before and after dynos.

I will share more information in the very near future.

BTW, there are other car's with my box right now running around locally, problem free in 90+ degree weather.

Would you need to break the tmap clip off ;-) Cut hoses? Open the ECU box?

Just curious -- maybe another thread is appropriate -- I love seeing all the options proliferate -- it keeps everyone on their toes...
