Dinan Stage 2 Flash(msd 81), Will it make the August 10th release?

I like many others have been waiting and waiting and waiting for dinan to release this software. I tried to set up an appointment today for monday the 11th to flash my car. Still getting the runaround from my local dealer that dinan still has a few more tweaks to go and that he isn't sure they will be ready by then. Am I the only one that is hearing this news from their dealers or is everyone else hearing the same thing? Would love some input.

I spoke with Dinan today and they said they have no idea when it will be available. They did say it was "on the order of weeks or months, not years" which I guess is good news. I was hoping to get this done soon but it is not looking very positive now. Hopefully something will change and they will make it.

My dinan guy called Dinan today and spoke with the programmers there and they say they do not even know of any real update. They are working on some "other things" but there is no update to be released that they know of.

Eh? As I understand it there isn't a Dinan Stage 2 available in CA now? Are they saying that they aren't working on one? It shouldn't be this hard to spend $2k

I am a little shocked this is still going on for this long. This is taking absolutely too long given what info that told us originally. Dinan shouldn't be saying things like, "we are 99% done" and "any day now for us" That is complete BS in my opinion. They weren't any closer to this on July first when they said the same nonsense about weeks away. I am fed up right now.

umm... what is the big rush anyways? Is there some amazing or ground-breaking update that BMW has made? From what I've read, there are little updates here and there, but nothing substantial... not to mention that getting such an update I believe costs 1-hour labor... personally, I'm not going to upgrade and pay whatever $80/hr for them to update my software for something that I don't really need...

maybe you don't understand that the situation. What update are you talking about? The Dinan software is supposed to be compatible with DME81.0 compared to the old DME80.0. That is the hold up. Every tuner out there is being stalled by this software but not to the extent that Dinan is.

Oh, I see. I did misunderstand. However, I believe what I said earlier still holds in that there is not much difference between the DME81 and the version previous to that... when you get the current Dinan flash, yes, you'll be running the older BMW software, but it's not that different from DME81.

Maybe you should just get the flash with the slightly older BMW software instead of waiting indefinitely? *shrug*

I think you are misunderstanding - those with MSD81 do NOT have the option of using Dinan, as Dinan cannot flash cars that have the MSD81, which is all cars post March 08 production. Dinan only has the ability to flash MSD80 cars.

I hate to say it but you are way off base here. Those of us who are blessed with the msd 81 don't have the option of flashing our cars at this point. The only reason that the dinan flash is important to most of us is because it keeps the factory warranty intact. If dinan didn't offer this to their customers they would be out of business. $2,000 is a fair price to get this type of performance upgrade and keep the factory warreanty. Nobody would put up with this type of bullshit if that offer wasn't on the table..

Exactly, and I am already considering trying a different tune in the mean time so when the month or year comes up that they figure this out I can get a warranty going. Does anyone know if that would work?

Hell, my car should run cooler and more efficient than most of the cars tuned on this board. I have the upgraded oil cooler and intercooler so a V3 or JB3 should run great on my car I would think.

Spoke with Eric at dinan today and he said he may have news early next week. I asked what news? that we will have to wait a few more weeks? He laughed and said hopefully next week. Only bad part is that ECU's will have to be shipped to Dinan.

They are including the new DME fix that was in BMW's sevice bulletin for the HPFP into the new flash. I was on the phone with DINAN all day today, that is why mine is going to be done here Wednesday, because I have to flash my car back to stock monday and give them the info from the new BMW flash so they can write a new DINAN flash for my car.
