Ram Air Scoops (probably not what you think)
So I understand that with a stock routed intake offer very little to no improvement. I however have a hot side inlet. So a friend of mine that has a 335d is letting me borrow his scoops and the air duct that is between the engine and core support (it ducts to the passenger side instead of the driver side).
I tried with a box fan to see what kind of flow improvement there is through the duct with and without the scoops feels like there's at least 2x the air moving through the duct. I'll report back later what temperature difference I see driving. Right now it's usually around 25 degrees over ambient. If this will bring it around 15 over I'd consider it a success. |

To see improvement on the stock airbox from an efficiency standpoint it's best to look at WGDC. |

Are you talking about the 335d snorkel?
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...lDQRoC2EPw_wcB I have one but did it for looks and theory. In practice, I saw no performance gain but I also don't measure things in +/- 5hp. Considered custom-making a heat-shielded box around my relocated inlets or maybe pulling from the pass wheelwell.

Have you looked at any type of ducting coming up from inside the bumpper? I don't even know if this can be done, haven't even been under the car since I bought it.....

So I finally had the chance to run back to back, with and without the snorkel and scoops.
It looks like there is no appreciable difference. Same speed, same water temperature, and the intake temperature remained at about 14 degrees above ambient. Same stretch of road, temperature (general conditions), and only a few minutes apart. If I would have seen 3-5 degree drop, I'd think it had merit. But I saw no difference. So I'll try something else. I don't know what... |

Not only lower iat is good but feeding colder thus denser air to your turbos is always better... And in high power circumstances your IC has les work to do.

Intake temps and airflow do matter, even if you have an intercooler , Is a time tested and clean way to get more air. I would not expect much from it, but it makes for a little better set up.

While I agree, I'm looking at it from a cost/benefit standpoint. I'd be looking at $150-200 plus fab time. I may be better off grabbing a M3 rep bumper brake duct and trimming and ducting. I think it would offer greater frontal area. Plus I would be able to create better curvature. One thing I wonder was when the air hits the grill scoops vertical face the curves horizontally then 90 degrees to the passenger side, a lot of sharp turns with tight radii. Does this kill flow? I don't know...

But for $60 and a 3 minute install, why not? https://www.ecstuning.com/b-ecs-part...003384ecs01~a/

To start I'd be at like $110 just in the snorkel and scoops. Then I'd need to duct it over, I imagine I'd easily spend another $50. Plus the time and money to make the heat shield/snorkel dump.
And this is all without seeing even 2 degree benefit from 1/2 of the setup. |
