BMW GS 310 R - Motorrad

I've been looking at motorcycles and I'm leaning towards the BMW GS 310 R. I want something that is inexpensive, warranty and overall value for the dollar.

Does anyone have experience with this motorcycle? If so, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Also, if you could point me to recommendations to a similar forum like Bimmerpost, but for Motorrad, that would be much appreciated.

Don't have any direct experience with the 310. But California Superbike School had it with them when I was at VIR last month. Keith Code ran it around the track during one of the student breaks. I think his son Dylan also did a few laps around the track with it.

I've been toying with the idea of getting the GS myself. I grew up riding, but haven't in 30+ years now and this looked like a good one to get back into it with.

I have a GS 310...

Owned many bikes, been riding since I was young.

In my opinion it's a great bang for the buck bike...

Excellent brakes, suspension, and fit/finish.. it feels like a BMW.

Fuel injection, liquid cooled, decent front fork for $5300-5700 can't go wrong... I had a hard time finding a comparable bike for this price.

To the average joe, it looks like a $14000 BMW full bore bike. The styling is pretty close...

My local dealer can't keep them in stock.

My only complaint, I'm about 6 2 230lb and my nuts kind of get squeezed up on the front tank. It's a tight fit but just on the edge of being too snug for comfort.

If you're concerned about value buy used and maintain it yourself. That 310R might be a good starter bike but you can get the same thing for a fraction of the price used. Also you won't be able to do anything cool on the bike for years unless you ride it hard enough to constantly drop it. And you'll drop it regardless. My point? No reason to get a new bike.

OP, are you looking at the G 310 R, or the G 310 GS? The two bikes are completely different.

I was considering the G310 R....I live in Portland, Oregon and thought it would be perfect for my urban commutes.

I appreciate all the info! You reinforced a lot of what I've been hearing on the online reviews.

I was thinking it's a great bang for the buck as well.....I figured it would be great for my urban commutes and weekend rides.

I've heard about the tight squeeze on the boys near the tank. Someone in a YouTube review had mentioned the same thing. I wonder if a different height seat would help with that.

I'm not concerned with value. A bike is a toy, not an investment.

I'm not sure what you are talking about....You can customize the bike as soon as you buy it....Check out the images and YouTube link below for some rad customs.

If you are constantly dropping your bike you should consider another form of transportation....or better yet, stay off the roadway.

I was thinking the same but didn't feel like responding to something so irrelevant

They are a fun little commuter bike. Not a lot of power, a bit of a touchy clutch on/off point but if you drop a tooth on the front sprocket it makes a surprising difference.

Suspension is the week point as it always is on an entry level bike.

I have a G310R - the clutch engagement and stalling is the biggest issue and it is a city bike not a highway bike.
