DIY Convert fuel economy gauge to oil temperature

Perfekt toolbox is used to program the fuel economy gauge into oil temperature in 5 minutes and no special tools beyond a D+KCAN cable.

Yes, fuel economy is important to know and track but its in the gauge cluster, both average and instantaneous. If you don't have it, it can be easily programmed. A dial fuel economy is very annoying; but oil temperature is very useful. Especially if you take short trips in the cold you will realize you won't necessarily reach 100C which is necessary to burn off water vapor. Or if you drive on hot days or track the car, make sure you are not running the oil temperature above what the oil is rated for. You should aim to run the oil temp from 110C to 125C and never exceed 150C with a synthetic.

If you really want to do it right without having to swap in a 335i cluster, get a junk 335i or 328i cluster with the oil temp face and swap out the face. Take the settings for a 335i tach and code them in using the same procedure you did with the oil temp so the scaling is correct.
