Apple needs to dump AT&T and their chip vendor and go with Qualcomm and Verizon. Stupid lemmings fell for crap that plagued the first gen model.

AT&T is BY FAR the best carrier in my area. Not to mention, it's GSM. Verizon just isn't going to happen. They want to be able to make a phone that they can sell all over the world, which means AT&T or T-Mobile. Maybe in the future they will consider a CDMA version of the phone, but it wasn't going to happen to start. I don't even believe reports that they had talked to Verizon or Sprint. Unless they gave them enough money to compensate for the fact that most of the rest of the world uses GSM, I don't see them doing an exclusive with them.

Screw Verizon. They can't even implement SIM cards like the rest of the normal world. They still feel the need to micromanage their customer's cell phone preference. If you want to change your phone you have to take it into the shop? Screw that.

The iphone after market (jailbroken iphones) would be virtually non existent if they went with Verizon as well. So while you might think it would be better, you are the minority.

Verizon is shit. AT&T while not perfect, and definately "the man" of telecommunications if there ever was one, is a far better provider. The only poeple that I've seen have issue with AT&T are the poeple that can't pay for a phone in the first place.

I left Verizon to encounter no service at my house, dropped calls all the time, my iPhone freezing and having to constantly do soft-resets, and the dreaded echo on bluetooth.

I have had my 3g for over a week now. I love it. but...
My battery goes down to 25% daily.
That is for some phone calls and some intense surfing.
Some days, 3g lags A LOT! some others, it's SO FAST!

You need to leave 3G, wi-fi and bluetooth off, or your battery won't last the day.

I leave all three on and it works just fine. But I do tend to keep it fully charged. I just have a dock at work that I toss it in when I get here and that makes it work just fine all day.

And normal usage (just phone calls and a few minutes of surfing) will bring the charge
down to about 75% remaining.

It goes down because the 3G antenna's are most likely not on the same tower the iPhone was using for EDGE and might be farther away.

Classic. AT&T is among the very worst carriers where I live, and Verizon is about as close to perfect as you can get. Before the iPhone came out, I couldn't name a single person who would have ever voluntarily signed up for AT&T.

It's true that Verizon micromanages it's customers, but the trade-off (at least around Boston) is nearly flawless service. I haven't had a dropped call or been in a "no service" area in probably 4 or 5 years. The only people I know on AT&T (all of whom switched just to get the original iPhone) spend more time without service than with it, and drop at least a call or two a week. But they're sticking it out because they love their iPhones.
